Michael Wright (writer)
Michael Wright (died 19 November 1969) was an Australian writer of radio and television drama. He was from Adelaide. Wright was part of the original story team on ''Bellbird''. He won an AWGIE for his ''Skippy'' episode "The Poachers". He wrote a number of scripts in collaboration with Ron McLean. He died in a car accident in 1969 leaving behind a wife and three sons. AWGIE Awards
The AWGIE Awards is an annual awards ceremony conducted by the Australian Writers' Guild, for excellence in screen, television, stage and radio writing. The awards began in 1967. The awards are judged by over 50 writers, most of whom are previous award winners themselves. They receive no payment for their role as judges. The judges sign a confidentiality agreement, stating that they will not disclose to anyone that they are members of the judging panel. "The Parking Ticket" was written by Max Colwell and Michael Wright and directed by Henri Safran and originally aired on ABC on 4 July 1966. Plot Bob Rankin receives a parking ticket and discovers he lives in a world of aggressive inspectors. The father of a man who has seduced a young woman is given a ticket by the father of the girl. ''Australian Playhouse'' was an Australian anthology TV series featuring the work of Australian writers. It ran for two series consisting of 40 episodes. Among the featured productions were works by Pat Flower who was the main writer having written 10 episodes, other writers included Tony Morphett, John Warwick, Barbara Vernon, Richard Lane, James Davern and David Sale Background Development In August 1965 Talbot Duckmanton of the ABC announced that the ABC would increase its production of local drama, including a show called ''Australian Playhouse''.
