Michael Tomlinson (engineer)
Michael James Tomlinson-Mynors (born 1 October 1977) is a British politician serving as Minister of State for Countering Illegal Migration since December 2023. A member of the Conservative Party, he has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mid Dorset and North Poole since the 2015 general election. He previously served as Solicitor General for England and Wales from September 2022 to December 2023 and Vice-Chamberlain of the Household from July to September 2022. Early life Tomlinson was born in Wokingham, Berkshire, England on 1 October 1977 and attended Hereford Cathedral School, a private school in Hereford. His father Howard was the headmaster of the school between 1987 and 2005. He studied Classics at King's College London before obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Law at the College of Law. The Common Professional Examination/Postgraduate Diploma in Law (CPE/PGDL) is a postgraduate law course in England and Wales that is taken by non-law graduates (graduates who have a degree in a discipline that is not law or not a qualifying law degree for legal practice) wishing to become either a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales. It is being replaced by the Solicitor Qualifying Examination (SQE) which was introduced on 1 September 2021. Hereford
Hereford () is a cathedral city, civil parish and the county town of Herefordshire, England. It lies on the River Wye, approximately east of the border with Wales, south-west of Worcester and north-west of Gloucester. 2015 United Kingdom General Election
The 2015 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday, 7 May 2015 to elect 650 members to the House of Commons. It was the first and only general election held at the end of a Parliament under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011. Local elections took place in most areas on the same day. Polls and commentators had predicted the outcome would be too close to call and would result in a second consecutive hung parliament whose composition would be either similar to or more complicated than the 2010 general election.
