Michael Simpson (painter)
Michael Simpson (born 1940) is a British painter. Simpson has had major solo shows at the Serpentine (1985), the Arnolfini (1996), Spike Island (2016), BlainSouthern (2017) and Stuart Shave Modern Art (2024), and in 2016 won the John Moores Painting Prize for his painting ''Squint (19)''. Career Born in Dorset to Anglo-Russian parents, he attended Bournemouth College of Art (1958–60) and the Royal College of Art (1960–63). Simpson makes large-scale paintings in ongoing series. These often repeat and rework several subjects and elements. Simpson's influences include early Flemish painting, and his painting style incorporates minimalism and other types of formal restraints. He describes his approach to painting as a "deceptive force of the constructed image." In Vitamin P3, a guide to contemporary painting, critic Barry Schwabsky described Simpson's 'allegiance to a conception more readily associated with abstraction than with painting that employs images'. Michael Simpson (producer)
Michael Simpson, also known as "E.Z. Mike", is an American record producer. Along with John King (record producer), John King, he makes up one-half of the Los Angeles, California, Los Angeles-based producing duo the Dust Brothers, who co-wrote and produced many critically acclaimed records including the Beastie Boys' ''Paul's Boutique'' and Beck's ''Odelay''. He won a Grammy Award for his song writing & production on Santana (band), Santana's ''Supernatural (Santana album), Supernatural'' album in 1999. He has also done producing on his own - most notable is his work with the Eels (band), Eels. Simpson went on to compose the scores for the films ''Road Trip (2000 film), Road Trip'', ''Saving Silverman'', ''Freddy Got Fingered'' and ''Stick It'', where in addition to composing the original score, he teamed up with rapper Talib Kweli to produce and perform the song "Abra Cadabra". Mike Simpson (Caulfields)
The Caulfields were an American alternative rock band from Newark, Delaware which recorded two albums for A&M Records in the late 1990s. The group was led by singer-songwriter John Faye, the frontman for the Philadelphia-based groups IKE. The group is best known for their song "Devil's Diary." Their first album was 1995's ''Whirligig''. The album's initial single was "Devil's Diary", which received limited radio play as well as exposure on MTV. "Devil's Diary" peaked at No. 61 in Australia. The band toured Australia on the back of airplay on popular youth radio station Triple J, supporting Australian band Died Pretty. Two weeks before the release of their second album ''L'' in 1997, A&M Records fired the A&R executive representing the band. Six months later the Caulfields disbanded. ''Sleepaway Camp'' is a 1983 American slasher film written and directed by Robert Hiltzik, and starring Mike Kellin (in his last on-screen appearance), Katherine Kamhi, and Paul DeAngelo alongside Jonathan Tiersten, Felissa Rose, Christopher Collet (in his film debut), and Karen Fields. The original entry in the ''Sleepaway Camp'' film series, it focuses on serial killings which occur at a summer camp for teenagers. Filmed in upstate New York in the fall of 1982, ''Sleepaway Camp'' was released the following year by United Film Distributors. It earned approximately $11 million at the box office, but was met by largely unfavorable reviews from critics, many of whom deemed it exploitative and derivative of such films as '' Friday the 13th'' (1980). Michael Harry Simpson (born March 13, 1947) is an American former professional football defensive back who played four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the thirteenth round of the 1969 NFL/AFL draft after playing college football at the University of Houston. Early life Michael Harry Simpson was born on March 13, 1947, in Mena, Arkansas. His family moved to Texas when he was young, with Simpson being raised in Groves, Texas. He played high school football at Port Neches–Groves High School in Port Neches, Texas. He earned all-district honors in 1964 as a running back. Michael Simpson (born 28 February 1974) is an English former professional footballer who plays for Mickleover Country Park Veterans FC, making his debut in a 2-1 loss to Kimberly Town Veterans. Career Born in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Simpson began his career at one of his hometown clubs, Notts County. He made 43 starts for the Magpies, before moving to Wycombe Wanderers on loan in 1996. He then made his return to Notts county and made a further appearance before Plymouth Argyle came in for his services in the same season of 1996-97. He made 10 starts for Plymouth and a further 2 substitute appearances. In 1997, Simpson returned to Wycombe Wanderers, where he finally found home. In a highly successful seven years at Wycombe, he clocked up 251 starts and 15 as a substitute. Simpson played a big part in Wycombe's famous FA Cup run of the 2000/01 season, where they beat then Premiership Leicester City to reach the semi-finals.
