Michael Scott Rohan
Michael Scott Rohan (22 January 1951 – 12 August 2018) was a Scottish fantasy and science fiction author and writer on opera. He had a number of short stories published before his first books, the science fiction novel '' Run to the Stars'' and the non-fiction '' First Byte''. He then collaborated with Allan J. Scott on the nonfiction '' The Hammer and The Cross'' (an account of Christianity arriving in Viking lands, not to be confused with Harry Harrison's similarly themed novel trilogy of the same name) and the fantasy novels '' The Ice King'' and '' A Spell of Empire''. Rohan is best known for the trilogy '' The Winter of the World'', set in the Ice Age. Michael Scot (Latin: Michael Scotus; 1175 – ) was a Scottish mathematician and scholar in the Middle Ages. He was educated at University of Oxford, Oxford and University of Paris, Paris, and worked in Bologna and Toledo, Spain, Toledo, where he learned Arabic. His patron was Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor, Frederick II of the Holy Roman Empire and Scot served as science adviser and court astrologer to him. Michael Scott (Scottish Author)
Michael Scott (30 October 1789 – 7 November 1835) was a Scottish author and autobiographer who wrote under the pseudonym Tom Cringle. Life and work Scott was born in Scotland at Cowlairs, near Glasgow, the son of a Glasgow merchant. In 1806 he went to Jamaica, first managing some estates, and afterwards joining a business firm in Kingston. The latter post necessitated his making frequent journeys, on the incidents of which he based his best known book, ''Tom Cringle's Log''. In 1822 he left Jamaica and settled in Glasgow, where he engaged in business. Michael Scott was the founder of the London Opera Society. In his role as the society's sole artistic director, he brought to London Marilyn Horne, Joan Sutherland, and Boris Christoff. He was also responsible for introducing Sherrill Milnes, Ruggero Raimondi, and Montserrat Caballé. He was a highly regarded expert in the field of opera with an extensive knowledge of the history of vocal music, and his books include volumes 1 and 2 of '' The Record of Singing'' and ''The Great Caruso''. He is best remembered for his TV talk show, '' The Time, The Place'' and his work as a reporter on ''World in Action''.
