Michael Newman (April 26, 1957 – October 20, 2024) was an American lifeguard, retired firefighter and actor known for his role of Michael "Newmie" Newman on ''Baywatch''. Newman was born in San Francisco, California, on April 26, 1957. Both during and after working on ''Baywatch'', he advocated for education around water safety and first aid, including times that people credited him and ''Baywatch'' for giving them the knowledge of how to act in an emergency. After leaving the show, he worked with environmental groups to improve the water quality at beaches. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2006, when he was 50 and publicly spoke about the disease when promoting the documentary series '' After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun''. Michael Newman is an American product development and marketing manager in the musical instrument and professional audio industries from San Diego, CA. Newman performed product management and marketing duties for some of the earliest digital audio workstation products from Digidesign, Tascam and Studer. Newman worked closely with Gerry Kearby at Studer, who later went on to form the online multi-media company Liquid Audio. Oliver Michael Griffiths Newman (born 1941) is an Australian metallurgist, administrator and amateur ornithologist who has worked for many years with Pasminco EZ Ltd in Tasmania and Newcastle, New South Wales. In Tasmania he was involved with studies on waders, especially the breeding biology of pied oystercatchers. He became a member of the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union The Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union (RAOU), now part of BirdLife Australia, was Australia's largest non-government, non-profit, bird conservation organisation. It was founded in 1901 to promote the study and conservation of the native b ... (RAOU) in 1968. He was regional organizer for the RAOU's Atlas of Australian Birds project 1977–1981. He served on the RAOU Council 1982–1988, and again from 1999, including chairing the Research Committee. He was elected a Fellow of the RAOU in 2003.
