Michael N. Martinez
Michael N Martinez (born 1949) was the first Hispanic American lawyer in Utah. He went on to a long career in the law working in both government and private practice. He was a "vocal minority rights advocate" during his career, serving on many boards and commissions dedicated to furthering the rights of Hispanics and other people of color. He was the first minority to be appointed to the Utah State Bar Commission, and went on to help found the Utah Minority Bar Association. He also served as President of the National Hispanic Bar Association from 1987-1988. He hosted his own call-in radio show on KSL-Radio called "Perspective" and had his own column for both the Deseret News and the Salt Lake Tribune. His professional papers are archived at thJ. Utah State Bar is the regulatory agency established by the Utah Supreme Court to regulate the practice of law in Utah. The Utah State Bar is funded by dues from members, Bar exam dues, continuing education fees, Pro Hac Vice fees, and revenue generated by annual conventions. Beginning in 2019, the Utah State Bar, in conjunction with the Supreme Court, implemented a series of groundbreaking changes designed to improve access to justice for all individuals. Nancy Workman
Nancy Workman (December 9, 1940 – May 3, 2020) was an American politician who was the first county mayor of Salt Lake County, and a member of the Republican Party. She was the last Republican to have held this office. She was born in Pueblo, Colorado, but grew up in Boise, Idaho where her father was an automobile dealer. She finally settled in the Salt Lake Valley during her senior year of high school. Workman went to college at the University of Utah and ran a construction business before seeking office as county recorder. After an unsuccessful bid in 1990 she was finally elected in 1994 to a six-year term. Later, after the post was approved by the county commission, Workman was elected to the newly-created post of county mayor of Salt Lake County.
