Michael Mery
Michael Lawrence Mery (April 4, 1851 – December 6, 1927) was the eighth and tenth President of the Chico Board of Trustees, the governing body of Chico, California from 1888 to 1889 and from 1890 to 1891. He was the proprietor of the Chico Iron Foundry. Early life and family He was born in the Grand Duchy of Baden on April 4, 1851, the son of Jacob Mery. His family emigrated to the United States in 1854, when he was three years old. The family made it as far west as Toledo, Ohio, where Jacob had begun to establish a residence, but died only three months after arriving, and his wife died a week later. The family with seven sons, and one daughter, with Michael as the youngest were orphaned. In 1865 Mery went to Detroit, and learned to be a machinist. James Davison (California Politician)
James Davison (1827 – December 21, 1897) was the seventh President of the Chico Board of Trustees, the governing body of Chico, California from 1886 to 1888. Early life and family James Davison was born in Derry, Ireland in 1827. He came to America at the age of three years, with his father, who worked as a weaver in New Jersey. The family returned to Ireland due to his father's health, as well as the failure of a business in New York to which his father had been in consignment. He was thirteen at the time. Aged 19, in 1846, James returned to America. He enlisted in Company G of the 2nd Ohio Infantry. He served under General Winfield Scott, in the Mexican–American War. Marysville, California
Marysville is a city and the county seat of Yuba County, California, located in the Gold Country region of Northern California. As of the 2010 United States census, the population was 12,072, reflecting a decrease of 196 from the 12,268 counted in the 2000 Census. It is part of the Yuba-Sutter area of Greater Sacramento. New Orleans And Jackson Railway
The New Orleans, Jackson and Great Northern was a track gauge, gauge railway originally commissioned by the State of Illinois, with both Stephen Douglas and Abraham Lincoln being among its supporters in the 1851 Illinois Legislature. It connected Canton, Mississippi with New Orleans, and was completed just before the American Civil War, in which it served strategic interests, especially for the Confederate States of America, Confederacy.
