Michael McGowan (director)
Michael McGowan (born April 14, 1966) is a Canadian filmmaker. He is best known for writing and directing the feature films ''Saint Ralph'', ''One Week (2008 film), One Week'', ''Score: A Hockey Musical'', and ''Still Mine''. Early life McGowan was born in Toronto, Ontario, but graduated from the University of North Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts, BA in English. Career Returning to Toronto he became a journalist, writing for publications such as ''Quill & Quire,'' ''Toronto Life'' and ''The Globe and Mail''. He then joined the TV industry, helping create the stop-motion children's TV show ''Henry's World'', and then wrote and directed ''Saint Ralph'' in 2004, for which he won the Outstanding Achievement in Direction award from the Directors Guild of Canada and the Writers Guild of Canada award for Best Feature Film. Miami International Film Festival
The Miami Film Festival, formerly Miami International Film Festival, is an annual film festival held in Miami, Florida, each March. Since 2015 the festival also runs a smaller Fall Festival, known as the Miami Film Festival GEMS, which presents films thought to be the GEMS of the award season. History The Miami Film Festival debuted in February 1984, under the auspices of the Film Society of Miami. It was founded by Nat Chediak and Steven Bowles and directed by Mr. Chediak for its first eighteen years, becoming the City's premier international cultural event. ''Henry's World'' is a Canadian animated children's television series produced for Canada's Family Channel by Cuppa Coffee Animation and Alliance Atlantis Communications, with German company TV-Loonland AG also producing season 1. It was first aired from 2002 to 2004, with a total of 26 episodes produced. The series follows Henry Wiggins, a boy who has an extraordinary ability to make his wishes come true when eating his mother's mushy carrots. This was the first stop-motion animated series to be entirely produced in Canada. ''Between'' is a Canadian science fiction drama television series which debuted on Citytv on May 21, 2015. Created by Michael McGowan, the series stars Jennette McCurdy as Wiley Day, a pregnant teenage daughter of a minister living in the small town of Pretty Lake, which is coping with a mysterious disease that has killed everybody over the age of 21. The series is a co-production between Citytv and Netflix, which distributes the series outside Canada as a Netflix Original Series. The series was renewed for a second season on July 8, 2015, which premiered on June 30, 2016.
