Michael Marketo
Michael Marketo is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s. He played for Balmain in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Background Marketo was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He is the father of Jake Marketo. Playing career A Balmain junior, Marketo made his first grade debut for Balmain against Manly-Warringah in Round 6 1983 at Brookvale Oval. Marketo scored his first try for Balmain in Round 5 1984 against Penrith. In 1985, Marketo played 10 games as the club reached the minor semi final against Parramatta but lost the match 32–4. In 1986, Marketo enjoyed his best season as Balmain reached the preliminary final against Canterbury-Bankstown but the club fell short of a grand final appearance losing the match 28–16. Balmain Tigers
The Balmain Tigers (also known as the Sydney Tigers from 1995 to 1996) are a rugby league club based in the inner-western Sydney suburb of Balmain, New South Wales, Balmain. They were a founding member of the New South Wales Rugby League and one of the most successful in the history of the premiership, with eleven titles. In 1999 they formed a joint venture club with the Western Suburbs Magpies club to form the Wests Tigers for competition in the National Rugby League (NRL). They no longer field any senior teams in the lower divisions. At the time of the joint venture only South Sydney Rabbitohs and the St George Dragons had won more titles than the Tigers. Jake Marketo
Jake Marketo (born 17 February 1989) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who plays for the Townsville Blackhawks in the Intrust Super Cup. He previously played for the St. George Illawarra Dragons in the National Rugby League. Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles
The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles are an Australian professional rugby league club based in Sydney's Northern Beaches. They compete in the National Rugby League (NRL). The Manly club debuted in the 1947 New South Wales Rugby Football League season and currently hosts the majority of their home games at fortress Brookvale Oval in Brookvale. They train at the New South Wales Academy of Sport in Narrabeen and their Centre of Excellence in Brookvale. The team colours are maroon and white, and they are commonly known as ''Manly''. Brookvale Oval, currently known as 4 Pines Park for sponsorship reasons, is a multi-purpose stadium in the suburb of Brookvale, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The ground is owned by Northern Beaches Council and is primarily used by the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in the National Rugby League, with a capacity of 18,000. Leichhardt Oval
Leichhardt Oval is a rugby league and soccer stadium in Lilyfield, New South Wales, Australia. It is currently one of three home grounds for the Wests Tigers National Rugby League (NRL) team, along with Campbelltown Stadium and Western Sydney Stadium. Prior to its merger with the Western Suburbs Magpies, it was the longtime home of the Balmain Tigers, who used the ground from 1934–1994 and 1997–1999. As of July 2012, Leichhardt Oval is the most played-on Australian professional rugby league ground in active use in the National Rugby League, having hosted 794 games since Balmain played its first game at the ground against Western Suburbs in Round 1 of the 1934 NSWRFL season, held on ANZAC Day, Wests winning the game 18-5.
