Michael Malone (born September 15, 1971) is an American professional basketball coach who most recently served as the head coach for the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is currently an analyst for ESPN. He had also been the head coach of the Sacramento Kings in 2013–2014. Malone previously served as an assistant coach of the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, New Orleans Hornets, and Golden State Warriors. Early life and education Born in the Astoria, Queens, Astoria neighborhood of the New York City borough Queens, Malone is the son of Brendan Malone, a former NBA head coach. Malone began his high school playing career at Bishop Hendricken High School, Bishop Hendricken in Warwick, Rhode Island, from 1984–1986 while his father was head coach at the Rhode Island Rams men's basketball, University of Rhode Island.
