Michael Machado
Michael J. Machado (born March 12, 1948) is a Democratic politician from Linden, California. He served from 2000 to 2008 in the California State Senate. Machado represented the 5th District, which includes the cities of Tracy, Manteca and Stockton in San Joaquin County; Suisun City, Fairfield, Dixon and Vacaville in Solano County; Davis, West Sacramento, Winters and Woodland in Yolo County; as well as Walnut Grove and a portion of Elk Grove in Sacramento County. Background Machado was born to William John Machado and Grace Fenley Machado, and had two siblings. His paternal grandparents immigrated to California from the Azores. Machado graduated with a degree in Economics from Stanford University, earned his master's degree in agricultural economics from the University of California, Davis, and in 1988 attended the Harvard Business School Agribusiness Seminar. Walnut Grove is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sacramento County, California, United States. Founded in 1851 by Chinese immigrants, it served as an important port between Sacramento and San Francisco. It is part of the Sacramento metropolitan area, Sacramento-Arden-Arcade-Roseville Statistical Area. The population was 1,452 at the 2020 census, down from 1,542 at the 2010 census. As one of the only remaining Chinese-American built cities in the United States, Walnut Grove is considered a Historic district of Rome, historical district and National Historic Landmark. Woodland is a city in and the county seat of Yolo County, California, United States. Located approximately northwest of Sacramento, it is a part of the Sacramento metropolitan area. The population continues to grow every year, with a growth rate o0.33% annually, and a current population of 61,873. Woodland's origins date to 1850 when California gained statehood and Yolo County was established. The area was well irrigated due to the efforts of James Moore, which drew people into farming as the soil was very fertile.
