Michael Lord
Michael Nicholson Lord, Baron Framlingham (born 17 October 1938) is a British politician, and was a Conservative Member of Parliament for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich between 1997 and 2010. He was first elected for the predecessor seat of Central Suffolk in 1983. He was the Second Deputy Chairman of Ways and Means, one of the Deputy Speakers of the House of Commons, from 1997 to 2010. Early life He attended Christ's College, Cambridge, where he gained an MA in agriculture in 1962 and a blue for rugby union as a centre. He also played club rugby for Bedford. He is a former president of the Arboricultural Association. Parliamentary career He contested Manchester Gorton in 1979 and was first elected as an MP for Central Suffolk in 1983. The Honourable Timothy Michael Lord (born 10 February 1966) is an English barrister, King's Counsel and Bencher of the Inner Temple who successfully acted for Guardian Care Homes against Barclays as part of the Libor fixing scandal. Life Lord was born on 10 February 1966, the son of Michael Lord, Baron Framlingham. He was educated at Bedford Modern School and Christ's College, Cambridge where he earned a blue for rugby. Lord qualified as a solicitor in 1991 with Slaughter & May but was subsequently called to the Bar at the Inner Temple in 1992, practising at Brick Court Chambers. The title of Knight Bachelor is the basic rank granted to a man who has been knighted by the monarch but not inducted as a member of one of the organised Order of chivalry, orders of chivalry; it is a part of the Orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom, British honours system. The Maastricht Rebels were British Members of Parliament (MPs) belonging to the then governing Conservative Party who refused to support the government of Prime Minister John Major in a series of votes in the House of Commons on the issue of the implementation of the Maastricht Treaty (Treaty on European Union) in British law. The Maastricht Rebellion was a major event of John Major's troubled second term as Prime Minister (1992–1997). Manchester Gorton was a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. It was the safest Labour seat in Greater Manchester by numerical majority and one of the safest in the country. Manchester Gorton was abolished for the 2024 general election. Bedford Blues are a semi-professional rugby union club in the town of Bedford, England, currently playing in the RFU Championship. History Foundation and 19th century Bedford RUFC was founded in 1886 after an amalgamation between Bedford Rovers (1876) and Bedford Swifts (1882). Both parent clubs had close connections with Bedford School and Bedford Modern School, and both had fixtures with the leading teams of the period.
