Michael Kennedy (climber)
Michael Kennedy is an American rock climber, alpinist, photographer, writer and editor. From 1974 to 1998 he was the editor of ''Climbing'' magazine, an American climbing magazine. In March 2009, he took the position of Editor-in-Chief of ''Alpinist'' magazine. His son Hayden Kennedy, also a renowned climber, died in October 2017. Jeff Lowe (climber)
Jeff Lowe (September 13, 1950 - August 24, 2018) was a famed American alpinist from Ogden, Utah who was known for his visionary climbs and first ascents established in the US and Canadian Rockies, Alps and Himalayas. He was a proponent of the "Alpine style" philosophy of climbing, where small teams travel fast with minimal gear. Lowe made over 1000 first ascents. Lowe was a co-founder of Lowe Alpine along with his brothers Greg Lowe and Mike Lowe. Jeff Lowe is the cousin of George Henry Lowe III. Lowe suffered from a neurological disease similar to ALS for approximately 18 years, until he died on August 24, 2018, in Colorado, USA. Career achievements Lowe is credited with bringing modern ice climbing to the United States from Europe as well as pushing the limits of mixed climbing. Greg Child
Greg Child (born 12 April 1957) is an Australian-born rock climber, mountaineer, author and filmmaker. He has authored several books: ''Thin Air: Encounters in the Himalayas'', ''Mixed Emotions: Mountaineering Writings of Greg Child'', ''Postcards from the Ledge'', '' Over the Edge'' and ''Climbing Free'' (co-authored with Lynn Hill), and has written numerous magazine articles for "Outside", "Climbing", "Rock and Ice" and "Men's Journal". In 1987, Child was honoured with the American Alpine Club's Literary Award for his prolific and insightful mountaineering literature. Carlos Buhler
Carlos Buhler (born October 17, 1954 in Harrison, New York) is one of America's leading high altitude mountaineers. Buhler's specialty is high-standard mountaineering characterized by small teams, no oxygen, minimal gear and equipment, and relatively low amounts of funding; yielding first ascents of difficult routes in challenging conditions, such as the Himalayan winter season. Buhler is a graduate of The Putney School and is a 1978 graduate of the Huxley College of the Environment, Western Washington University. He is a recipient of the university's Distinguished Alumni Award, and currently resides in Canmore, Alberta, Canada. He has two children. Ama Dablam
Ama Dablam is a mountain in the eastern Himalayan range of Province No. 1, Nepal. The main peak is , the lower western peak is . Ama Dablam means "Mother's necklace"; the long ridges on each side like the arms of a mother (''ama'') protecting her child, and the hanging glacier thought of as the ''dablam'', the traditional double-pendant containing pictures of the gods, worn by Sherpa women. For several days, Ama Dablam dominates the eastern sky for anyone trekking to Mount Everest Base Camp. For its soaring ridges and steep faces Ama Dablam is sometimes referred as the "Matterhorn of the Himalayas." The mountain is featured in one rupee banknote of Nepal. Jim Donini (born July 23, 1943) is an American rock climber and alpinist, noted for a long history of cutting-edge climbs in Alaska and Patagonia. He was president of the American Alpine Club from 2006 to 2009, and a 1999 recipient of the AAC's Robert and Miriam Underhill Award. Notable climbs * 1976 '' Torre Egger'' - First Ascent - with John Bragg, and Jay Wilson from the United States, by climbing first to the col between the Egger and Cerro Torre, the Col of Conquest, and then up the ridge to the peak.
