Michael An Gof
Michael Joseph (died 27 June 1497), better known as Michael An Gof, was one of the leaders of the Cornish rebellion of 1497, along with Thomas Flamank. Background The rebels marched on London to protest against King Henry VII's levy of a tax to pay for an invasion of Scotland in response to the Scots' support of the pretender Perkin Warbeck. The Cornish believed that this was a northern affair and had nothing to do with them; they also believed that the tax was the work of the King's corrupt counsellors and marched to London to bring this to the King's attention. Michael Joseph (publisher)
Michael Joseph (26 September 1897 – 15 March 1958) was a British publisher and writer. Early life and career Joseph was born in Upper Clapton, London. He served in the British Army during the First World War, and then embarked on a writing career, his first book being ''Short Story Writing for Profit'' (1923). After a period as a literary agent for Curtis Brown, Joseph founded his own publishing imprint as a subsidiary of Victor Gollancz Ltd. Gollancz invested £4000 in Michael Joseph Ltd, established 5 September 1935. Joseph and Victor Gollancz disagreed on many points and Michael Joseph bought out Gollancz Ltd in 1938 after Gollancz attempted to censor ''Across the Frontiers'' by Sir Philip Gibbs on political grounds. Michael Joseph is a South African businessman. He is currently Chairman of Kenya Airways, a position he has held since October 2016, and also chairs the Safaricom PLC board, having been appointed in August 2020. He was previously the CEO of Safaricom from July 2000 to November 2010, as Founder and CEO, and then again as acting CEO from July 2019 to March 2020. He is also Chairman of the M-PESA Foundation and the M-PESA Foundation Academy. He was until recently (October 2017) Vodafone’s Director of Mobile Money and was responsible for leading the strategic growth and development of successful M-PESA proposition across the Vodafone footprint.
