Michael J. Missal
Michael J. Missal is the inspector general of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. He was confirmed by the Senate on April 19, 2016 and sworn in on May 2, 2016. On January 24, 2025, he was fired by President Donald Trump along with at least 17 other Inspectors General; however, the legality of the firing remains in question. Early Life and Education Missal was born in Bristol, Connecticut. His father, Harold Missal, a decorated WWII veteran who helped liberate the Dachau concentration camp, served as a Connecticut state court judge for more than forty years. Missal graduated from Washington and Lee University and received his law degree from Catholic University Law School. Killian Documents Controversy
The Killian documents controversy (also referred to as Memogate or Rathergate) involved six documents containing false allegations about President George W. Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard in 1972–73, allegedly typed in 1973. Dan Rather presented four of these documents as authentic in a ''60 Minutes II'' broadcast aired by CBS on September 8, 2004, less than two months before the 2004 presidential election, but it was later found that CBS had failed to authenticate them. Several typewriter and typography experts soon concluded that they were forgeries. Lt. Col. Bill Burkett provided the documents to CBS, but he claims to have burned the originals after faxing them copies. David Jonathon Shulkin (born July 22, 1959) is an American physician and former government official. In 2017, Shulkin became the ninth United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs and served under President Donald Trump. Reta Phyllis Mays (born June 16, 1975) is an American convicted serial killer who murdered at least seven elderly military veterans over a span of eleven months, between July 2017 and June 2018, by injecting them with lethal doses of insulin while she was employed as a nursing assistant at the Louis A.
