Michael Hintze
Michael Hintze, Baron Hintze, (born 27 July 1953) is an Australian-British businessman and philanthropist, based in the United Kingdom. Early life After his grandparents fled from Russia following the 1917 Bolshevik revolution, he was born in the Chinese city of Harbin. Then, after Mao Zedong and the Chinese Communist Party took over power of China, his refugee parents left for Australia. Raised by his mother in Sydney, he was educated at St Leo's Catholic College, St Leo's College, Wahroonga. He then studied at the University of Sydney where he obtained a Bachelor of Science, BSc degree in physics in 1975 and a Bachelor of Engineering, BE degree in engineering in 1977, residing at St John's College, University of Sydney, St John's College and working as a tutor at Sancta Sophia College. Sancta Sophia College (colloquially as Sancta) is a residential college for undergraduate women and postgraduate men and women at the University of Sydney. The college has a Catholic foundation but admits students of all religions. Fiona Hastings has been the principal of the college since 2018. 2012 JPMorgan Chase Trading Loss
In April and May 2012, large trading losses occurred at JPMorgan's Chief Investment Office, based on transactions booked through its London branch. The unit was run by Chief Investment Officer Ina Drew, who later stepped down. A series of derivative transactions involving credit default swaps (CDS) were entered, reportedly as part of the bank's "hedging" strategy. Trader Bruno Iksil, nicknamed the ''London Whale'', accumulated outsized CDS positions in the market. An estimated trading loss of billion was announced. However, the loss amounted to more than billion for JPMorgan Chase. These events gave rise to a number of investigations to examine the firm's risk management systems and internal controls.
