Ideal Sports Club is a Montserrat sports club based in Brades. Ideal SC is best known for their football section, who plays in the Montserrat Championship, the highest tier of football on the island. The football club won the championship in 2004. History Ideal was founded in Brades, Montserrat in 1975. The first record of them competing in national football was in 1996-97 Montserrat Championship, known as the Carib Football League for sponsorship reasons, under the name Ideal Boys. The Montserrat national football team represents Montserrat in international Association football, football. Football is the second most popular sport in Montserrat, after cricket. The team is controlled by the Montserrat Football Association, it plays at the Blakes Estate Stadium. The Montserrat football team was formed in 1973, and has entered the FIFA World Cup, World Cup FIFA World Cup qualification, qualifiers since the 2002 FIFA World Cup, 2002 edition, being eliminated in the first round on each occasion. Due to the volcano, volcanic activity on the island from 1995 to 2010, the team has only played a handful of matches, and most of those have been away from home. The Montserrat Championship is the top association football division in Montserrat. It was created in 1974 but has been competed-for only sporadically, partially as a result of the Soufrière Hills eruption causing widespread devastation to the island in 1997. Between 2005 and 2015, no league was played. The league restarted in 2016, but has been stopped again in 2018.
