Michael Gregor (aircraft Engineer)
Michael Gregor, born Mikheil Grigorashvili ( ka, მიხეილ გრიგორაშვილი) or Mikhail Leontyevich Grigorashvili () (1888–1953) was an aircraft engineer of Georgian origin, one of the pioneering aviators in the Russian Empire, the United States, and Canada. Early years Born in Derbent, Russia, Grigorashvili graduated from the Imperial Institute of Communications in St. Petersburg and was trained as a pilot in France in 1911. Russia Upon his return to Russia, Grigorashvili worked as an instructor for pilots and joined the army as an officer in World War I. Georgia The Bolshevik coup in 1917 forced him to retire to a newly independent Georgia where he worked as a road engineer in the Georgian ministry for communications. Gregor FDB-1
The Gregor FDB-1 was a Canadian biplane fighter aircraft, fighter, designed in 1938 by Michael Gregor (aircraft engineer), Michael Gregor and manufactured by Canadian Car and Foundry. Despite having some advanced design features such as Rivet#Flush rivet, flush rivetted all-metal construction and a retractable undercarriage, the final generation of biplane fighters was being supplanted by monoplanes and the Gregor FDB-1 was obsolete before it flew. Despite the Royal Canadian Air Force's desperation for modern fighters, the sole example remained unsold and was eventually lost in a fire in 1945. The Gregor FDB-1's model designation stood for Fighter Dive Bomber indicating its intended roles. Larry Milberry
Larry Milberry (born 1943) is a Canadian aviation author and publisher. Milberry is a lifelong aviation enthusiast whose first book, ''Aviation in Canada'', was published by McGraw-Hill in 1979. Now an aviation classic, this book was written over a decade while he worked as a high school teacher in the Toronto District Catholic School Board. He ended his teaching career to start CANAV Books, his one-man publishing operation, in 1980. He has since authored, co-authored or edited 21 books on Canadian aviation history, including many of the best-known reference books on the subject. Milberry's research has taken him to all parts of Canada and to many overseas destinations. Although never a pilot, he has flown in more than 100 types from the Ford Trimotor to the Noorduyn Norseman, C-130 Hercules, CF-18 Hornet, Pitts Special, Sikorsky Skycrane and the giant Antonov 124.
