Michael Gannon (politician)
Michael Brennan Gannon (1847—1898) was an auctioneer and politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Gannon was born in Sydney, New South Wales, in 1847, the son of James Gannon and his wife Mary (née Phelps). After working as a clerk at the Christian Brothers' College Sydney and as a commercial agent with his brother, he relocated to Queensland in 1868. He acquired pastoral experience at Warra Warra and acted as manager for Thorn and a stockbuyer for Davenport. In 1880 he became an auctioneer in Ipswich, Queensland, Ipswich. In partnership with R.A. Ryan, he purchased the produce and auctioneering company of Arthur Martin in 1882. He invested in grazing and real estate. On 6 June 1884, he married Amy England Pearce in Brisbane. The Michael Gannon residence is a heritage-listed holiday home at 150 Kingsley Terrace, Manly, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was built . It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 27 October 2000. History The residence, 150 Kingsley Terrace, Manly was constructed for Michael Gannon and his wife Amy. The first European settlement of the Wynnum-Manly area of Moreton Bay occurred in the 1860s when two sugar mills, Lota and Wyvernleigh were established. The area soon became popular with holiday makers, and holiday homes were constructed along the bay. In 1882 land sales of the Manly Beach Estate (named after the coastal Sydney suburb of Manly) were held, giving the area its present name. Anthony Musgrave
Sir Anthony Musgrave (31 August 1828 – 9 October 1888) was a Secretary of State for the Colonies, colonial administrator and governor. He died in office as Governor of Queensland in 1888. Early life He was born at St John's, Antigua, the third of 11 children of Anthony Musgrave and Mary Harris Sheriff. After education in Antigua and Great Britain, he was appointed private secretary to Robert James Mackintosh, governor-in-chief of the Leeward Islands in 1854. Sir James Robert Dickson, (30 November 183210 January 1901) was an Australian politician and businessman, the 13th Premier of Queensland and a member of the first federal ministry. Early life Dickson was born on 30 November 1832 in Plymouth, Devon, England. He was the only son of Mary Maria (née Palmer) and James Dickson. He was educated in Scotland at the High School of Glasgow, and subsequently worked as a junior clerk at the City of Glasgow Bank. Dickson arrived in Australia in 1854 during the Victorian gold rush. He initially worked for the Bank of Australasia and then for Rae, Dickson & Co., his cousin's merchant firm.
