Michael Dracos Dimitry
Michael Dracos Dimitry (August 9, 1874 - October 21, 1929) was a Creole politician and lawyer known for legally representing New Orleans Storyville brothel madam Lulu White in her 1905 tax evasion incident along with George W Flynn. He also represented Lulu along with many colored prostitutes when they were ordered to vacate Storyville on February 18, 1917. Regrettably, Storyville was shut down eight months later. Michael's uncle was Mayor of Corencro Dracos Anthony Dimitry, and his brother was prominent New Orleans Optometrist Theodore John Dimitry Jr.. His family is one of the oldest Creole families in New Orleans, known as the Dimitry Family. His great-grandmother was mixed-race Creole socialite Marianne Celeste Dragon, and they experienced racism throughout the 19th century. Lulu White
Lulu White (Lulu Hendley, ca. 1868 – August 20, 1931) was a brothel madam, procuress and entrepreneur in New Orleans, Louisiana during the Storyville, New Orleans, Storyville period.Landau, EmilyLulu White, KnowLA Encyclopedia of Louisiana, 2010-11-29. An eccentric figure, she was noted for her enormous success as an entrepreneur, love of jewelry, her many failed business ventures, and her criminal record that extended in New Orleans as far back as 1880. A Blue Book published in Storyville, New Orleans in 1900 described her in this way: “nowhere in this country will you find a more popular personage than Madame White who is noted as being the handsomest octoroon in America. Her mansion possesses some of the most costly oil paintings in the southern country, her mirror parlor is also a dream.
