Michael Coles (speedway Rider)
Michael Timothy Coles (born 11 August 1965 in Exeter, England), is a former international motorcycle speedway rider from England. Career Coles first rode in the British speedway leagues for his home town club Exeter Falcons during the 1982 National League season. However he only made a handful appearances in his first three seasons with the club before making his breakthrough in 1985, improving his average to 6.28 and becoming a regular starter for Exeter. He spent six seasons at Exeter before joining Mildenhall Fen Tigers for the 1988 National League season and then Edinburgh Monarchs the following season. At Edinburgh, Coles established himself as a heat leader and during his fifth and final season with the Scottish club in 1993, he averaged 8.57 and helped the team win the Fours Championship during the 1993 British League Division Two season. Exeter
Exeter ( ) is a City status in the United Kingdom, cathedral city and the county town of Devon in South West England. It is situated on the River Exe, approximately northeast of Plymouth and southwest of Bristol. Craven And Young Shields
The Craven Shield and Young Shield were short-lived speedway end of season cup competitions in the United Kingdom governed by the Speedway Control Bureau (SCB), in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA). Craven Shield Named in memory of Peter Craven (twice FIM World Champion), who was killed after a racing accident in 1963, it was held from 1997 until 2008. It was the end of season competition for top eight clubs in the league standings of the newly formed Elite League (the highest tier of speedway). It was later a three-team tournament, with each team staging a leg on their own track and aggregate scores deciding the final placings. The format was changed in 2008 with three mini leagues of three teams with the best team overall of the three leagues progressing directly to the final. Bob Coles
Robert John Coles (born 12 February 1944) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider from England. He earned one international cap for the England national speedway team. Biography Coles first rode in the British speedway leagues for Plymouth Devils during the 1968 British League Division Two season. However, he was not a regular starter for the south west team until the following season in 1969. In 1970, Plymouth dropped out of the league, so Coles switched to rival club Exeter Falcons in the British League (the highest division of the United Kingdom at the time). While at Exeter in 1971, he doubled up with Romford Bombers in division 2 and recorded an average of 8.06. However, his season was curtailed by an accident that saw him break his leg. The 1972 season was a turbulent one, in terms of his team place, he had a solid season for Exeter but in division 2 he followed the Romford relocation of the team to West Ham Hammers. Connor Coles
Connor Coles (born 7 September 1994) is a motorcycle speedway rider from England. Speedway career Coles began his speedway career riding for Rye House Raiders during the 2012 National League speedway season and then moved to Kent Kings for the 2013 National League speedway season. He then spent three seasons with the Mildenhall Fen Tigers, in which time he helped the team win the National Trophy. It was in 2017 that Coles moved up to the SGB Championship and rode for Newcastle Diamonds for the SGB Championship 2017 season. He also appeared for Eastbourne and the Isle of Wight in the third division. Following a season with Buxton he joined Edinburgh in the SGB Championship 2019 and Stoke Potters in the NDL. The Great Britain national speedway team (formerly the England speedway team) is one of the major teams in international motorcycle speedway. The team is managed by former Great Britain riders Oliver Allen and Simon Stead, and captained by the Tai Woffinden. The team raced as England from 1928 to 1961 and again from 1974 to 2000. They have raced as Great Britain from 1962 to 1973 and since 2001. History The national speedway team held test matches against the Australia as early as 1928, although the first official test match is listed as 30 June 1930 at Wimbledon Stadium. The British Newspaper Archive website provides access to searchable digitized archives of British and Irish newspapers. It was launched in November 2011. History The British Library's Newspapers section was based in Colindale in north London until 2013, and is now divided between the St Pancras and Boston Spa sites. The library has an almost complete collection of British and Irish newspapers since 1840. This is partly because of the legal deposit legislation of 1869, which required newspapers to supply a copy of each edition of a newspaper to the library.
