Michael Borders
Michael Borders (born 1946) is an African American artist from Hartford, Connecticut, who is noted for his murals. Borders received a Bachelor's Degree from Fisk University and a Masters in Fine Art from Howard University. He studied under David Driskell and did a summer residency at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. Borders has said that large-scale murals are the most effective way for him to convey important messages to many people. One of Borders' most prominent works is an 8-panel mural titled ''Panorama of Connecticut Industry'', which depicts the interplay of natural, human, and manufacturing history of Connecticut from the 1600s through modern times. Each panel in the mural represents a different Connecticut county, showcasing that county's particular industrial specialization and historic figures. Travelers Tower is a 24-story, skyscraper in downtown Hartford, Connecticut, United States. Travelers Tower was the seventh tallest building in the world when it was constructed in 1919, and is currently the second tallest building in Hartford. Travelers Tower is the fourth headquarters of Travelers Insurance Company. The architect of Travelers Tower was Donn Barber, who also designed the Connecticut State Library, Supreme Court Building and The Hartford Times Building. It was the tallest building in New England until Boston's Prudential Tower opened in 1964, but remained the tallest building in Connecticut until City Place I opened in 1984. Colt Armory
The Colt Armory is a historic factory complex for the manufacture of firearms, created by Samuel Colt. It is located in Hartford, Connecticut along the Connecticut River, and as of 2008 is part of the Coltsville Historic District, named a National Historic Landmark District. It is slated to become part of Coltsville National Historical Park, now undergoing planning by the National Park Service. History The armory was built on a site beginning in 1855. Low-lying, often flooded meadows were set off from the river by a dike and drained. The dike and earliest armory buildings were completed in 1855, and Colt's mansion Armsmear was constructed the following year on a hill overlooking the armory.
