Michael Bryan "Mike" Bishop (born September 7, 1968) is an American bassist and vocalist and a member of the heavy metal band Gwar. Life and career He attended Thomas Dale High School in Chester, Virginia. Most notably, he was the bass guitarist and, after a 20-year hiatus, is currently the lead vocalist for the American Heavy metal music, heavy metal band Gwar. Bishop's first band was the Hopewell, VA-based hardcore outfit The Guilty. As a member of Gwar, he was the first to play the role of "Beefcake the Mighty". The name of Beefcake was taken from Bishop's nickname during his punk years. Bishop was the bassist and lead vocalist for Kepone (band), Kepone from 1991 through the band's breakup in 1997. All three members of Kepone later performed together again as American Grizzly until that band's breakup in 2005. Beefcake The Mighty
Beefcake the Mighty is the bass guitarist of the heavy metal band Gwar. The character appears as a stout humanoid (hence his name), girded in Roman-style armor. He is usually portrayed wielding either an oversized Gladius sword or a large battle-axe. Since 2019, Beefcake has been portrayed by Casey Orr, one of several musicians to portray the character over the band's history. Background According to Gwar mythos, Beefcake originates from the planet Cholesterol (where he met singer Oderus Urungus). He weighs approximately 299 tons and "invented music by stretching dinosaur guts across the Grand Canyon". In the early days of Gwar, Balsac the Jaws of Death played bass and Beefcake played guitar. However by the time Gwar's first album ''Hell-O'' had been released, the roles had switched, and Beefcake became the permanent bass player. Scumdogs Of The Universe
''Scumdogs of the Universe'' is the second album by American satirical heavy metal band Gwar. The album is their first album on Metal Blade Records and was released on January 8, 1990. To date, it is the band's best-selling album. A deluxe 30th anniversary box set of ''Scumdogs'' was released in August 2020, with remixed and remastered audio by producer Ronan Chris Murphy, as well as an exclusive cassette containing rehearsal demos and previously unreleased tracks. Those that pre-ordered the box set received a digital download of the remastered album on August 7, 2020, with the first single, "Maggots", being made publicly available the same day. ''The New Dark Ages'' is the fifteenth album by thrash metal band Gwar. It was released on June 3, 2022 through the band's own label Slave Pit Inc., making it their first record to not be released through Metal Blade Records since ''Beyond Hell'' in 2006. It also marked the band's first album to feature bassist Casey Orr since ''Bloody Pit of Horror'' and the last album to feature guitarist Pustulus Maximus (Brent Purgason) before his departure from the band in 2023. Since its release, the album has received positive reviews for the social commentary featured on its lyrics and Michael Bishop's vocal performance. It was promoted by a tour and the comic book ''Gwar in the Duoverse of Absurdity'' released by Z2 Comics. The Blood Of Gods
''The Blood of Gods'' is the fourteenth album by thrash metal band Gwar. It was released on October 20, 2017 by Metal Blade Records. It is the band's first album without founding member Dave Brockie, who portrayed Oderus Urungus, due to his heroin overdose death on March 23, 2014. The album is also the first to feature Michael Bishop since 1999's '' We Kill Everything'', portraying the newest character, lead singer Blöthar the Berserker, as opposed to his role as the original Beefcake the Mighty. It is the band's last album to feature Jamison Land as Beefcake before his departure in 2019 as well as the last to be released through Metal Blade.
