Michael Alan Lerner is a French-American screenwriter, director, and journalist. Early life and education Lerner was born in New York City. He attended Harvard University and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in History and Literature. Journalism Upon graduating, Lerner was hired by ''The New Republic'' magazine as a staff writer. He later joined ''Newsweek'' magazine. Lerner covered a variety of conflicts around the globe, including the war in Lebanon and the fall of apartheid in South Africa. His freelance work has appeared in the ''Los Angeles Times'' magazine, ''The New York Observer'' and ''GOOD Magazine''. The Avignon Film Festival (created 1984), also known as the Avignon/New York Film Festival or Rencontres Cinématographiques Franco-Américain d'Avignon, took place every year in Avignon, France along with a twin film festival organised in New York. It was last held in 2008. History Avignon Film Festival was created to promote French/American independent cinema through previews, retrospectives and round-tables. An award ceremony encouraged young film directors to participate in the festival. The purpose was to bring together independent filmmakers from the United States, France and other European countries. Alan Jay Lerner
Alan Jay Lerner (August 31, 1918 – June 14, 1986) was an American lyricist and librettist. In collaboration with Frederick Loewe, and later Burton Lane, he created some of the world's most popular and enduring works of musical theatre both for the stage and on film. He won three Tony Awards and three Academy Awards, among other honors. ''Love & Mercy'' is a 2014 American biographical drama film directed by Bill Pohlad about the Beach Boys' co-founder and leader Brian Wilson and his struggles with mental illness during the 1960s and 1980s. It stars Paul Dano and John Cusack as the young and middle-aged Wilson, respectively, with Elizabeth Banks as his second wife Melinda Ledbetter and Paul Giamatti as his psychologist Dr. Eugene Landy. The title comes from Wilson's 1988 song. The film alternates between Wilson's production of the album ''Pet Sounds'' (1966) and his treatment under Landy's 24-hour therapy program in the late 1980s.
