Mewtwo (; Japanese language, Japanese: , Hepburn romanization, Hepburn: ) is a List of Pokémon, Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon, ''Pokémon'' media franchise. It was first introduced in the video games Pokémon Red and Blue, ''Pokémon Red'' and ''Blue'', and later appeared in subsequent sequels and spin-off titles, such as ''Pokkén Tournament'' and Detective Pikachu (video game), Detective Pikachu. In the video games, the player can fight and capture Mewtwo in order to subsequently pit it against other Pokémon. The player can first learn of Mewtwo late in ''Pokémon Red'' and ''Blue'' by reading research documents left in a ruined laboratory on Cinnabar Island where Mewtwo has escaped. Mewtwo is regarded as one of the series' strongest Pokémon, often referred to as "the world's strongest Pokémon" in various media, and was the strongest in the original games in terms of base statistic distribution. Ken Sugimori
is a Japanese video game designer, illustrator, mangaka, manga artist, and Video game director (other), director. He is best known as the primary character designer and art director for the ''Pokémon'' franchise. Sugimori is also credited with the art direction for other titles, including ''Pulseman''. Sugimori drew and finalized all of the original 151 Pokémon. He has also worked on the various ''Pokémon'' films, trading cards, and other games like the ''Super Smash Bros.'' series. Career From early 1981 until 1986, Sugimori illustrated a gaming fanzine called Game Freak (magazine), ''Game Freak'', which had been started by Satoshi Tajiri. Sugimori discovered the magazine in a dōjinshi shop, and decided to get involved.
