Mewalal
Sheoo Mewalal (also known as Sahu Mewalal; 1 July 1926 – 27 December 2008) was an Indian footballer in Kolkata. He played as a striker and was known for his fitness, bicycle kicks, and goal-scoring abilities, especially using the rabona kick. Mewalal's playing career with a reported 1032 goals along with 32 hat-tricks in both the official and exhibition matches, was ended in 1958 due to an injury. Childhood and early career Mewalal was born in Daulatpur in Chitarghati Panchayat of the Gaya district (now Nawada district) in Bihar, to Sahoo Mahadeoram and Kusumi Devi. He spent his early days playing football with the seeds of a tar tree near the banks of the Khuri River, which flows through his village. In 1937, his family moved to Calcutta (now Kolkata). Football at the 1951 Asian Games was held in New Delhi, India from 5 to 11 March 1951. In this tournament, six teams played in the men's competition. The pitch dimensions were 110 by 65 yards slightly narrower than permitted by international regulations but FIFA had been notified this in advance and sanctioned the tournament. Medalists Draw The draw for the Games was held on 25 February 1951 at a conference chaired by Guru Dutt Sondhi, who headed an executive committee for the purpose, in New Delhi. Japan and Afghanistan received byes in the first round; the former would play the winner of Iran v. Burma and the latter to play the winner of India v. Indonesia games. Kidderpore Sporting Club () is an Indian professional multi-sports club based in Kidderpore in South Kolkata, West Bengal. Its association football team competes in the Calcutta Football League Premier Division A, alongside taking part in IFA Shield. They also have a futsal section. Sailendra Nath Manna (; 1 September 1924 – 27 February 2012), known popularly as Sailen Manna, was an Indian football player who represented the India national team between 1948 and 1956. Predominantly played as a left-back, Manna is considered as one of the best defenders the country has ever produced. He has represented and captained India in different international competitions, including the Olympics and Asian Games. In 1971 Manna was awarded with Padma Shri by Government of India. The National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy, or simply Santosh Trophy, is an inter-state national football competition contested by the state associations and government institutions under the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the sport's governing body in India.
