Nash Metropolitan
The Nash Metropolitan is an American automobile that was assembled in England and marketed from 1953 until 1961. It conforms to two classes of vehicle: economy car and subcompact car. In today's US terminology the Metropolitan is a “subcompact”, but this category was not yet in use when the car was made. At that time, it was variously categorized, for example as a "small automobile" as well as an "economy car". The Metropolitan was also sold as a Hudson when Nash and Hudson merged in 1954 to form the American Motors Corporation (AMC), and later as a standalone marque during the Rambler years, as well as in the United Kingdom and other markets. Metropolitan Line
The Metropolitan line, colloquially known as the Met, is a London Underground line between in the City of London and and in Buckinghamshire, with branches to in Hertfordshire and in Hillingdon. Printed in magenta on the tube map, the line is in length and serves 34 stations (9 of which are step free). Between Aldgate and , the track is mostly in shallow " cut and cover" tunnels, apart from short sections at and Farringdon stations. The rest of the line is above ground, with a loading gauge of a similar size to those on main lines. Just under passenger journeys were made on the line in 2011/12. The line is one of just two Underground lines to cross the Greater London boundary (the other being the Central line). Metropolitan Stores of Canada Ltd. (often referred to as The Met or Metropolitan) was a Canadian variety department store chain based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The company was incorporated in 1908 as F.H. Brewster & Company, renamed Metropolitan Stores Ltd. in 1920 and became a newly-formed Canadian corporation as Metropolitan Stores of Canada Ltd. in 1961. At its peak, Metropolitan was one of the four largest variety chain store organizations in Canada with 180 stores in all provinces and territories and also operated junior department and clothing stores under the SAAN, Greenberg and Red Apple banners. Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver or Metro State) is a public university in Denver, Colorado. Metropolitan (train)
The ''Metropolitan'' (stylised as ) was a premium passenger train service between the cities of Cologne and Hamburg in Germany. Meant as an alternative to air transport, the first-class-only trains were operated from 1 August 1999 until 11 December 2004 by the Metropolitan Express Train GmbH (MET GmbH) based in Bad Homburg, a wholly owned subsidiary of the DB Fernverkehr AG wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG. Service was discontinued in December 2004 due to low usage and profitability; the trainsets were deployed in InterCity and Intercity Express traffic before being retired at the end of 2021, when they were offered for sale. , often referred to as TMU, is a public research university in Japan. Origin The origin of Tokyo Metropolitan University was Prefectural Higher School, under the old system of education, established by Tokyo Prefecture in 1929 as the third public higher school. The School was modeled on Eton College, with three years of advanced course and four years of regular course. The seven-year system had an advantage to assure the entrance to Imperial universities at the age of Middle School, and the typical passway for academic elites before the end of the Pacific War was to enter Tokyo First Middle School, proceeding First Higher School and Tokyo Imperial University. Metropolitan County
The metropolitan counties are a type of county-level administrative division of England. There are six metropolitan counties, which each cover large urban areas, with populations between 1 and 3 million. They were created in 1974 and are each divided into several metropolitan districts or boroughs. With the abolition of metropolitan county councils in 1986, with most of their functions being devolved to the metropolitan boroughs, making the boroughs effectively unitary authorities, metropolitan counties no longer form a part of local government in England. Any remaining functions were taken over by joint boards.
