Metro Line M5 (Budapest Metro)
The North-south regional rapid railway is a railway construction plan in Budapest, modelled on the Paris RER or German S-Bahn systems. Its aim is to connect three of the Budapest Helyiérdekű Vasút (BHÉV) suburban train lines, from Szentendre, Ráckeve and Csepel. The plan is also called Metro 5. History In the '90s, the growth of the suburbs was not accompanied by public transportation. Population growth was especially strong in Buda and in Csepel island region, but the HÉV lines end at the boundaries of the downtown area, where passengers have to change to go into the city. Hence the idea was born to connect the HÉV lines underground. Lord Mayor Gábor Demszky first spoke of plans in 2002. In 2005 the city council set aside a first 100 million forint for the project. The Budapest Metro (, ) is the rapid transit system in the Hungary, Hungarian capital Budapest. Margaret Island
Margaret Island ( ; ) is a long island, wide, ( in area) in the middle of the Danube in central Budapest, Hungary. The island is mostly covered by landscape parks, and is a popular recreational area. Its medieval ruins are reminders of its importance in the Middle Ages as a religious centre. The island spans the area between the ''Margaret Bridge'' (south) and the ''Árpád Bridge'' (north). Before the 14th century the island was called ''Insula leporum'' (Island of Rabbits). Administratively Margaret Island used to belong to the 13th district, but now is directly under the control of the city. Its appearance today was developed through the connection of three separate islands, the Festő (''Painter''), the Fürdő (''Bath'') and the Nyulak (''Rabbits''), during the end of the 19th century, to control the flow of the Danube. Lehel Tér
Lehel (; died 955), a member of the Árpád dynasty, was a Magyar chieftain and, together with Bulcsú, one of the most important figures of the Hungarian invasions of Europe. After the Magyar defeat at the Battle of Lechfeld, he was executed in Regensburg. Origin The medieval chronicler Anonymus calls Lehel the son of Tas, who was one of the "seven chieftains of the Magyars", and a descendant of late Grand Prince Árpád. Most historians agree that there is a mismatch in the timing, though he should be the son of Tas, who is mentioned as a grandson of Árpád by Emperor Constantine VII. Lehel's dukedom from about 925 was the Principality of Nitra, where he ruled in the former Kabarian lands. Line 1 (Officially: Millennium Underground Railway, Metro 1 or M1) is the oldest line of the Budapest Metro, built from 1894 to 1896. It is known locally as "the small underground" (''"a kisföldalatti"''), while the M2, M3 and M4 are called "metró". Oktogon (Budapest Metro)
Oktogon is a station of the yellow M1 (Millennium Underground) line of the Budapest Metro. The station is located under the Oktogon cross-roads where the Grand Boulevard and Andrássy Avenue intersect. It was opened on 2 May 1896 as part of the inaugural section of the Budapest Metro, between Vörösmarty tér and Széchenyi fürdő. Line 2 (officially: East-West Line, Metro 2 or M2, and unofficially: Red Line) is the second line of the Budapest Metro. Line M3 (Officially: North-South Line, Metro M3, and unofficially: Blue Line) is the third and longest line of the Budapest Metro. It runs in a general north-south direction parallel to the Danube on the Pest, Hungary, Pest side, roughly following Váci út south from Újpest to the Inner City (Budapest), city center, then following the route of Üllői út southeast to Kőbánya-Kispest.
