Methley
Methley is a dispersed village in the City of Leeds metropolitan borough, south east of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is located near Rothwell, Oulton, Woodlesford, Mickletown and Allerton Bywater. The Leeds City Ward is called Kippax and Methley. It is within the triangle formed by Leeds, Castleford and Wakefield, and between the confluence of the River Aire and River Calder. The latter is crossed by Methley Bridge, the A639 road, () about a mile south-east of the village. Location and history Today, the village is often described in terms of the area around Church Lane, Main Street and Pinfold Lane. However, the buildings on these streets largely date from the 20th century – and this area does not represent the original geographical centre of the village. Bud Metheny
Arthur Beauregard “Bud” Metheny (June 1, 1915 – January 2, 2003) was an American baseball player and coach. He played professional baseball for the New York Yankees (1943–46) and served Old Dominion University for 32 years as head baseball coach, head basketball coach and athletic director. Metheny was a graduate of the College of William and Mary where he played college baseball. He was also a brother of Phi Kappa Tau. During his four-year career with Yankees, he played for the Yankees in the second and last games of the 1943 World Series as the Yankees defeated the St. Louis Cardinals and he played with such great players as DiMaggio, Rizzuto and Dickey. In the minors before joining the Yankees, Metheny won pennants with Norfolk and the Kansas City Blues, as well as the Little World Series with the Newark Bears. Joseph Roy Metheny (March 2, 1955 – August 5, 2017) was an American serial killer and rapist from the Baltimore, Maryland area. While he claimed to have killed 13 people, sufficient evidence was only found to convict him of two murders. Research later confirmed 3 more victims, though he had not been charged with them. Early life Metheny's attorneys said his mother neglected her six children while she worked double shifts outside the home, his father was an alcoholic who was killed in a car accident when Metheny was six, and he suffered depression. Kevin Metheny (June 6, 1954 – October 3, 2014) was an American radio and cable network executive who began his career as on-air talent and went on to direct programming and audience research at many radio stations and in a number of broadcast conglomerates. During the 1980s, Metheny helped develop cable entertainment networks MTV and VH1 as vice-president in charge of Music Programming and Production; he later served as vice-president of VH1 before returning to broadcast radio. Linda Metheny
Linda Joan Metheny-Mulvihill (born August 12, 1947) is a retired American artistic gymnast. She won seven gold, three silver and one bronze medal at the Pan American Games in 1967 and 1971, and served as the flag bearer for the American team in 1971. She competed at the 1964, 1968 and 1972 Olympics with the best individual result of fourth place on the balance beam in 1968, becoming the first American gymnast to qualify to an Olympic event final. Domestically she won at least 18 individual national titles. In 1985 she was inducted into the U.S. Gymnastic Hall of Fame. Metheny started competing in 1962, and between 1964 and 1973 was a member of the national team. After the 1964 Olympics she enrolled at the University of Illinois as their only female gymnast. Mike Metheny ( ; born August 28, 1949) is an American jazz musician and music journalist. He is the older brother of the jazz guitarist Pat Metheny. Mike Metheny studied music education at the University of Missouri School of Music and Northeast Missouri State University, then played trumpet in the U.S. Army Field Band, Washington D.C. (1971–74). Following his time in the Army, he became an adjunct lecturer and assistant to the head of the trumpet department at the Berklee College of Music (1976–83). From 1978 to 1989 Metheny led his own Boston-based quartet, and in 1988 he was named “Outstanding Brass Player” at the annual Boston Music Awards.
