Metalist, Slovianoserbsk Raion
Metalist () is a Populated places in Ukraine#Rural settlements, rural settlement in Luhansk urban hromada, Luhansk Raion, Luhansk Oblast (oblast, region), Ukraine. Population 2197 people (2001); the village was incorporated in 1932. On June 17, 2014, a camera crew of Russian state television came under mortar fire at a checkpoint in the vicinity of Metalist. While Killing of Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin, sound engineer Anton Voloshin (1987-2014) died on the spot, special correspondent Igor Kornelyuk (1977-2014) was severely wounded dying later in hospital. Cameraman Viktor Denisov survived the attack unharmed. Luhansk Raion (; ) is a prospective raion (district) of Luhansk Oblast, Ukraine. It was formally created in July 2020 as part of a reformation of Ukraine's administrative divisions. Luhansk Oblast (; ), also referred to as Luhanshchyna (), is the easternmost Administrative divisions of Ukraine, oblast (province) of Ukraine. Its administrative center is the city of Luhansk. Killing Of Igor Kornelyuk And Anton Voloshin
On 17 June 2014, Russian state television correspondent Igor Kornelyuk and sound engineer Anton Voloshin were victims of a mortar strike launched by the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Metalist, Slovianoserbsk Raion, Ukraine, while travelling with a group of LPR rebel separatist fighters during the ongoing war in Donbass. They were killed in the attack, along with five rebels. Cameraman Viktor Denisov was not injured in the attack. A Ukrainian military pilot, Nadiya Savchenko, who served as instructor with a volunteer infantry unit, Aidar Battalion, was taken prisoner by the rebel forces at the LPR territory, brought to Russia and convicted to 22 years of imprisonment for allegedly directing the mortar fire and illegal crossing of the Russian border.
