Meta Linhas Aéreas (Formerly META - Mesquita Transportes Aéreos) was an airline based in Boa Vista, Roraima, Brazil, that operated domestic and international services to destinations in northern Brazil, Guyana, and Suriname. Its main base was Boa Vista-Atlas Brasil Cantanhede International Airport. The airline has been defunct since 2011. History The airline was established in 1991 by Francisco Assunção Mesquita, as an airline specializing in general aviation. It was then called Mesquita Táxi Aéreo. In 1997, it was granted a concession to fly regular flights and initiated those operations with an Embraer EMB 110 Bandeirante, flying from Boa Vista to Manaus and Porto Velho. At that time, it changed its name to Meta - Mesquita Transportes Aéreos. Boa Vista International Airport
Boa Vista−Atlas Brasil Cantanhede International Airport is the airport serving Boa Vista, Brazil. Since April 13, 2009 the airport is named after Atlas Brasil Cantanhede (1917-1973), a pilot and politician who in the 1950s pioneered aviation in Roraima state. It is the northernmost Brazilian airport served by scheduled flights. It is operated by Vinci SA. Some of its facilities are shared with Boa Vista Air Force Base of the Brazilian Air Force. History The airport was opened on February 19, 1973, and underwent its first renovation in 1998. The runway, terminal and the apron were then enlarged. On September 14, 2009 a second major renovation was completed increasing the capacity of the airport to handle 330,000 passengers/year, the terminal area to , parking space and installing two jetways. Boa Vista (, literally ''Good View''; figuratively "Fairview") is the capital of the Brazilian state of Roraima. Situated on the western bank of the Branco River, the city lies from Brazil's border with Venezuela. It is the only Brazilian state capital located entirely north of the equator. Boa Vista is the most populous municipality in the state of Roraima; approximately half of the population of the state lives in the city. Commerce mostly occurs with Manaus, the capital of the State of Amazonas. Business also takes place between Boa Vista and with the cities of Lethem, in Guyana and Santa Elena de Uairén, in Venezuela. The Embraer EMB 110 Bandeirante (English: ''pioneer'') is a Brazilian general purpose 15–21 passenger twin-turboprop light transport aircraft designed by Embraer for military and civil use. The Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia is a twin-turboprop 30-passenger commuter airliner designed and manufactured by the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer. The EMB 120 began development during 1974. While initially conceived as a modular series of aircraft, the ''Family 12X'' and referred to as the ''Araguaia'', intending to achieve a high level of commonality with the EMB 121 Xingu, the aircraft was redesigned and relaunched with the ''Brasilia'' name scheme during 1979.
