Mesembria
Mesembria (; ) was an important Greek city in ancient Thrace. It was situated on the coast of the Euxine and at the foot of Mount Haemus; consequently upon the confines of Moesia, in which it is placed by Ptolemy. Strabo relates that it was a colony of Dorians from Megara, and that it was originally called Menebria (Μενεβρία) after its founder Menas; Stephanus of Byzantium says that its original name was Melsembria (Μελσημβρία), from its founder Melsas; and both writers state that the termination -bria was the Thracian word for town. In the ''Periplus of Pseudo-Scylax'', Zone and Drys (Thrace), Drys are mentioned as neighboring cities of Maroneia, Dicaea (Thrace), Diceaa, and Abdera (Thrace), Abdera but located in the interior, although Zone was close to the island of Samothrace. Mesambria (Aegean Sea)
Mesambria (), or Mesembria (Μεσημβρία), was an ancient Greek city located in ancient Thrace, on the coast of the Aegean Sea. According to Herodotus, it was a bastion that had been founded by Samothrace, was a neighbor of the city of Stryme (city), Stryme and in the middle of the two ran the Lissus River. The Achaemenid army, army of Xerxes I, Xerxes passed Mesambria during the expedition against Greece in 480 BCE. Its site is tentatively located near Shabla-Dere, west of Alexandroupolis; but it has been suggested that Mesambria could be identified with Drys (Thrace), Drys, or with Orthagoria, or with Zone (Thrace), Zone.
