Mervyn Victor Richardson
Mervyn Victor Richardson, (11 November 1893 – 31 December 1972) was an Australian inventor and industrialist. In 1952 he produced a rotary lawn mower that proved popular leading to the formation of the company Victa. He commercialised the mower with creation of Victa Consolidated Industries and later went on to extend the business to include the manufacture of the Victa Airtourer and Victa Aircruiser aircraft and project homes. Early life Richardson was born in Yarramalong, New South Wales to Archibald George Heron Richardson, a school teacher from Ireland and his Australian-born wife Charlotte Martha Richardson, née Griffith. He had many jobs, starting with an apprenticeship as a jeweller and later becoming a car salesman. He created New South Wales Motors Ltd selling Austin motor cars in 1928. Yarramalong, New South Wales
Yarramalong ''(cedar country)'' is a township and suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia, located upstream from Wyong along the Wyong River. It is part of the local government area. The Yarramalong township has: Rural Fire Station, two cemeteries, public school (which closed down recently and is now used for community purposes), general store/petrol station, bottle shop/guest house and a hall which was originally an art hall but is now also used for community purposes. Busways now only operates a school bus service between Yarramalong and Wyong. It was acquired from Yarramalong Bus Lines in 2008. Darlinghurst is an inner-city, eastern suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Darlinghurst is located immediately east of the Sydney central business district (CBD) and Hyde Park, within the local government area of the City of Sydney. Victa is an Australian manufacturer of outdoor garden equipment, including petrol and electric lawn mowers, edgers, trimmers, and chainsaws. They manufacture these in petrol & lithium-ion powered variants. However, Victa remains most well known for the Victa Lawn Mower. The Victa brand is currently owned by the American engine manufacturer Briggs & Stratton; while being American owned, some assembly is retained in Australia with much occurring at various sites overseas. Victa Airtourer
The Victa Airtourer is an all-metal light low-wing monoplane touring aircraft that was developed in Australia, and was manufactured in both Australia and New Zealand. Design and development The Airtourer was the winning design, submitted by Henry Millicer, the chief aerodynamicist of Australia's Government Aircraft Factories, in a competition organised by Britain's Royal Aero Club in 1953. A wooden prototype was constructed by a small group of enthusiasts (the Air Tourer Group of the Australian Ultra Light Aircraft Association) in the Melbourne suburb of Williamstown during the late 1950s. This prototype, registered ''VH-FMM'' (nicknamed ''Foxtrot Mickey Mouse'') was first flown on 31 March 1959 by Flt. Lt.Randell Green at Moorabbin airport. Victa Aircruiser
__NOTOC__ The Victa Aircruiser was a 1960s Australian four-seat touring monoplane designed by Henry Millicer and built by Victa. Development Following the success of the earlier Airtourer, Millicer designed a four-seat version which he called the Aircruiser. The prototype registered ''VH-MVR'' first flew on 18 July 1966. Like the Airtourer it was a low-wing monoplane with a fixed nosewheel landing gear and powered by a Continental IO-360-H piston engine. Rather than the sliding clear Perspex canopy of the Airtourer, the four-seat Aircruiser had a fixed cabin roof with a single "car type" door on the left hand side. Although Victa completed certification testing, no production of the Aircruiser followed, as Victa closed down its Aviation Division after failing to get financial assistance from the Australian government.
