Meru, Kenya
Meru is a town in eastern Kenya. It is the headquarters of the Meru County, and the seventh largest urban centre in the country. Meru urban centre had a population of 80,191 residents during the 2019 census. Overview The town is located at 0.047035 degrees north and 37.649803 degrees east, on the northeast slopes of Mount Kenya. The Kathita River passes adjacent to the town. The main administrative part of the town is on the north side of the Kathita River. While the south side of the river is where residential areas are situated. Meru Town is situated about 8 km north of the equator, at an altitude of approximately 1500 m, in an area of mixed forest and clearings, small towns, villages and rural farms. ''Meru'' is a 2015 documentary film chronicling the 2011 first ascent of a new climbing route up the prow of the dramatic ''Shark's Fin'' on the northeast side of Meru Peak in the Indian Himalayas. The route required a complex range of alpine climbing, big wall climbing, and aid climbing techniques, and had rebuffed many famous climbers, including the team of Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin, and Renan Ozturk who are featured in the film. Meru is a Bantu language spoken by the Meru people (''Ameru'') who live on the Eastern and Northern slopes of Mount Kenya and on the Nyambene ranges. They settled in this area after centuries of migration from the north. The Meru people are a fairly homogeneous community and all share a common ancestry. They speak the same language, ''Kimeru'', with slight regional differences in accent and local words. Meruidae is a family of aquatic beetles in the suborder Adephaga, with only one genus and species, ''Meru phyllisae''. The beetle species was first found in the early 1980s.Paul J. Meru (overseer Of Sealers)
Meru was an Ancient Egyptian official under king Mentuhotep II in the Eleventh dynasty of Egypt, Eleventh Dynasty, around 2000 BC. Meru was ''overseer of sealers'' at the royal court and therefore one of the highest state officials. Meru is mainly known from his Theban Tomb (TT240). The tomb consists of the undecorated cult chapel and the underground burial chamber decorated with Pyramid Texts and Coffin Texts. There is a sarcophagus sunk into the floor decorated with friezes of objects and an offering list. Meru is also known from a stela now in the Museo Egizio in Turin. Here his parents Iku and Nebti are mentioned. The stela is also dated under king Mentuhotep II. Meru appears finally in two rock inscriptions in the .
