Merrylands railway station is a heritage-listed railway station located on the Main Southern railway line, Main South line, serving the Sydney suburb of Merrylands. It is served by the Sydney Trains Leppington & Inner West Line, T2 Leppington & Inner West and Cumberland Line, T5 Cumberland line services. History Merrylands station opened on 6 July 1878. In 1969, the Merrylands Road level crossing to the south of the station was replaced by the Mombri Street overpass to the north. In 1972, the signal box at Merrylands closed with operations transferred to Granville signal box. On 2 November 1996, the Merrylands to Harris Park railway station, Harris Park Cumberland Line#Y-link, Y-Link opened allowing direct train operation between these two stations by what is now known as the Cumberland Line. Arthur Todd Holroyd (1 December 1806 – 15 June 1887) was an Australian lawyer and politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council between 1851 and 1856. He was also a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for two periods between 1856 and 1857 and again between 1861 and 1864. Biography Early life Arthur Todd Holroyd was born in London on 1 December 1806, the youngest child of the merchant Stephen Holroyd and Elizabeth (''née'' Lofthouse). His father died in January 1810 when Arthur was aged three years. After a preliminary education in private schools, Arthur Holroyd was sent to Ripon Grammar School, North Yorkshire, "for a couple of years". In 1824 he began to study medicine in Winchester. Naval Base Sydney was a United States Navy base built during World War II at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The base was built with Australian civilian contractors. As the US Navy expanded in the Leapfrogging (strategy), Island hopping campaign, Naval Base Sydney expanded to include a Naval Base Hospital, repair base and other facilities.
