Daniel Merrett
Daniel Merrett (born 12 December 1984) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). Merrett was born in Adelaide, but moved to the Gold Coast with his family at a young age. A talented schoolboy rugby player for Benowa State High School, he was identified as a potential Australian rules footballer by AFL Queensland junior development scouts due to his imposing frame and ball-handling skills, and was groomed as a key forward with the Southport Sharks. He was recruited by the Brisbane Lions with the number 30 draft pick in the 2002 AFL Draft but took several years to develop sufficiently to make his debut in Round 2, 2005 against Port Adelaide. In August 2016, he announced he would retire from the AFL at the end of the season. John Campbell Merrett (August 26, 1909 – November 3, 1998), was a Canadian architect whose most noteworthy work was the interior design of Montreal's Central Station. Merrett was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Biography Early life The fourth child of Thomas Edward Merrett, banker, and his wife, Katherine Stuart Campbell, Merrett's childhood summers were spent in Métis-sur-Mer. He attended Selwyn House School in Westmount, Quebec, and Ashbury College, Ottawa, Ontario. Marriage and family Campbell Merrett married Hazel Howard, one of four daughters of Judge Eratus Edwin Howard and his wife, Evalyn Peverley, in 1937. Leo Merrett Leo Frederick Merrett (5 April 1920 – 18 October 1976) was an Australian rules footballer who played in the VFL in between 1940 and 1949 for the Richmond Football Club. Family The son of Frederick Merrett, and Ellen Clarice Merrett, née Buckley, Leo Frederick Merrett was born at Nhill, Victoria, on 5 April 1920. He married Sheila Nora Etheridge on 22 April 1944. His brother-in-law was the Richmond footballer Dave Baxter. He is the great grandfather of Western Bulldogs player Bailey Smith.
