Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class (C257)
The C257 Mercedes-Benz CLS is the third generation of the CLS range of four-door sedan, and was launched in 2018 as the successor to the Mercedes-Benz CLS (C218). It is only available as a sedan, with no plans to introduce a Shooting Brake variant in the near future. It is based heavily on the E-Class (W213). Development and launch Information on the C257 CLS was released online on 29 November 2017, with a public unveiling at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2018. The new CLS uses a four-link front suspension and a five-link rear suspension and comes in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (4MATIC) configurations. CLS 53 4MATIC+ models utilise variable all-wheel drive, allowing for torque distribution between the front and rear axles. Inline-four Engine
A straight-four engine (also referred to as an inline-four engine) is a four-cylinder piston engine where cylinders are arranged in a line along a common crankshaft. The majority of automotive four-cylinder engines use a straight-four layout (with the exceptions of the flat-four engines produced by Subaru and Porsche) and the layout is also very common in motorcycles and other machinery. Shooting-brake
Shooting-brake (alternatively spelled shooting break) is a car body style which originated in the 1890s from horse-drawn carriage origins. The first automotive shooting brakes were manufactured in the early 1900s in the United Kingdom. The vehicle style became popular in England during the 1920s and 1930s, and was produced by vehicle manufacturers or as conversions by coachbuilders. The term was used in Britain interchangeably with " estate car" from the 1930s but has not been in general use for many years and has been more or less superseded by the latter term. Mercedes-Benz CLS
The Mercedes-Benz CLS (initially called the CLS-Class) is a series of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from December 2003 to August 2023. The original model was a four-door sedan based on the Mercedes E-Class platform, marketed as a four door coupé. An estate (shooting brake) model was later added to the model range with the second generation CLS. All models are available as a high performance AMG variant, although it wasn't until the second generation CLS that 4MATIC all-wheel drive was offered. The CLS range is positioned between the E-Class and the S-Class within the Mercedes model range, and models tend to be less practical than the E-Class it is based on. Gorden Wagener
Gorden Wagener (born 3 September 1968) is a German car designer, and is the chief design officer for Mercedes-Benz Group AG. He was born in Essen. Career Wagener studied Industrial Design at the University of Duisburg-Essen (1990–1993), after which he specialized his studies in Transportation Design at The Royal College of Art in London. After college, he worked as an exterior designer for Volkswagen, Mazda and General Motors. In 1997 he joined Mercedes-Benz as a transportation designer and became the manager for the exterior and interior styling of the R-Class, ML-Class and GL-Class models in 1999 and moving onto the A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, E-Class, CLK-Class and CLS-Class in 2002. Robert Lešnik
Robert Lešnik is a car designer, born 1971 in Limbuš, Slovenia. After three failed attempts to enter the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, he registered at the University of Pforzheim, and while there he took an exam to work with Volkswagen. He succeeded and stayed at Volkswagen for nine years as exterior design team leader. In April 2007 he moved to Kia Motors and left it in September 2009 for Mercedes-Benz, where he has headed the Exterior Design department, since 2014. He won the "Designer of the year, 2006" award, a Slovenian award for industrial design. Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class (C218)
The C218 Mercedes-Benz CLS is the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, Mercedes CLS-Class range of four-door sedan (car), coupé sedans. The model shares the chassis and most of the technology with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W212), W212 E-Class and was produced from 2011 to 2017. Unlike its predecessor, the C218/X218 CLS can be optioned with all-wheel drive 4MATIC on all models including CLS 63 AMG variants.
