Meraldene River
The Oued Meraldene or Oued Merabtene, also called Oued Bourdine, is a river of Algeria located in Kabylia within the framework of the Province of Boumerdès. Presentation The ''Meraldène'' stream is one of the main tributaries of the Boumerdès River which is a river that finds its river mouth, mouth in the Mediterranean Sea. This river takes its source in the heights of the current commune of Beni Amrane in the Khachna Massif which shelters the peak of . At an altitude of 590 meters above sea level near the villages of Beni Khelifa and Azela, Boumerdès, Azela, ''Oued Meraldene'' is born to take its course on a river bed that juts out into the current town of Thénia. This area is rich in water resources thus feeds the Oued which then traces its route between the villages of Tabrahimt, Meraldene, Gueddara, Soumâa, Tizouighine before reaching the plateau of the village Louz, Boumerdès, Louz. Meraldene Dam
The Meraldene Dam, or Barrage Meraldene, is an embankment dam on the Meraldene River, located at southwest of Thénia in Boumerdès Province within Kabylia in Algeria. Construction The design of this project was entrusted to the engineer-architect, Henri Chauzy, who had his office in Algiers. The project for the realization of this hydraulic structure was approved on 24 May 1911 in order to carry out the water supply of the Meraldene River as well as the construction of the dam itself. Auguste Schneider, a contractor based in ''Thénia'' at the time, carried out the work on this dam until its final acceptance. The dam was approved for use on 26 February 1913 by the city of Thénia and its railway station. Indeed, this city created in 1872 required for its growth and economic development that there be a significant supply of fresh water, often difficult to achieve through wells and natural water sources. Oued
Wadi ( ; ) is a river valley or a wet ( ephemeral) riverbed that contains water only when heavy rain occurs. Wadis are located on gently sloping, nearly flat parts of deserts; commonly they begin on the distal portions of alluvial fans and extend to inland sabkhas or dry lakes. Permanent channels do not exist, due to lack of continual water flow. Water percolates down into the stream bed, causing an abrupt loss of energy and resulting in vast deposition. Wadis may develop dams of sediment that change the stream patterns in the next flash flood. Wadis tend to be associated with centers of human population because sub-surface water is sometimes available in them. River Bed
A streambed or stream bed is the bottom of a stream or river and is confined within a channel or the banks of the waterway. Usually, the bed does not contain terrestrial (land) vegetation and instead supports different types of aquatic vegetation (aquatic plant), depending on the type of streambed material and water velocity. Streambeds are what would be left once a stream is no longer in existence. The beds are usually well preserved even if they get buried because the banks and canyons made by the stream are typically hard, although soft sand and debris often fill the bed.
