Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=138409 on 2011-11-07 Shell description The original description by Möller (1842) is brief and in Latin: "Animal pede elongato, angusto; ore simplici, membrana linguali destituto; tentaculis brevioribus, crassiusculis, oculos perparvos ad basin internum ferentibus. Operculo pauco-spirato. Testa conico-turrita." Life habits Little is known about the biology of the members of this genus. As is true of most members of the Pyramidellidae ''sensu lato'', they are most likely to be ectoparasites. Genus
Genus ( plural genera ) is a taxonomic rank used in the biological classification of living and fossil organisms as well as viruses. In the hierarchy of biological classification, genus comes above species and below family. In binomial nomenclature, the genus name forms the first part of the binomial species name for each species within the genus. :E.g. '' Panthera leo'' (lion) and '' Panthera onca'' (jaguar) are two species within the genus ''Panthera''. ''Panthera'' is a genus within the family Felidae. The composition of a genus is determined by taxonomists. The standards for genus classification are not strictly codified, so different authorities often produce different classifications for genera. There are some general practices used, however, including the idea that a newly defined genus should fulfill these three criteria to be descriptively useful: # monophyly – all descendants of an ancestral taxon are grouped together (i.e. phylogenetic analysis should c ... Odostomia Chilensis
''Odostomia chilensis'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Pyramidellidae, the pyrams and their allies. Description The shell is milk-white. As the type specimen was damaged, the protoconch cannot be described. Probably the first two whorls of the teleoconch were lost. The rest of the type specimen measures 2.3 mm. The remaining three whorls of the teleoconch are well rounded, slightly constricted at the suture and moderately shouldered at the summit. They are marked by four pitted spiral grooves, three of which divide the posterior two-thirds between the sutures into three almost equal areas, while the fourth is at the periphery. The space between the peripheral grooves and the one posterior to it, is equal to one-third the space between the sutures. These grooves as well as those on the base are crossed by many slender axial riblets which break them up into pits. The raised spaces between the grooves are marked by slender lines of grow ... The four whorls of the teleoconch are well rounded, slightly contracted at the sutures, and somewhat shouldered at the summits, the first marked by four slender equal and subequally spaced incised spiral lines: the first are marked by a strongly incised groove a little below the summit which causes this to appear bounded by a well-rounded cord; The periphery of the body whorl is well rounded, the base somewhat inflated, well rounde ...
