Christopher Mends
Christopher Mends (22 February 1724 or 1725 – 5 April 1799) was a Methodist exhorter and later an independent minister. Biography Mends' birth is of uncertain origin: he was born either at the Cotts near Hasguard, Pembrokeshire, or at Haverfordwest, on 22 February 1724 or 1725, one of nine children of a cloth merchant. By 1741, Mends worked as a fuller with his brother, William, at Laugharne. After hearing George Whitefield's preachings, the brothers became exhorters. In January 1745, Mends was appointed to exhort in East Walton and Studder. Mends studied at Carmarthen Academy under independent minister Evan Davies for some of his training. By September 1748, the brothers had established a meeting house in Laugharne, which was registered as a dissenting meeting house by January 1750. Frank Mends Stone
Frank Mends Stone (19 April 1857 – 10 September 1942) was an Australian lawyer and politician who was a member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia from 1894 to 1906, representing North Province. Stone was born in Perth to Charlotte Maria (née Whitfield) and George Frederick Stone. His father was Attorney-General of Western Australia on two occasions, while an older brother, Sir Edward Albert Stone, was the fourth Chief Justice of Western Australia. Like his relatives, Stone entered the legal profession. He was an associate to Sir Archibald Burt (the chief justice) from 1876 to 1878, and was called to the bar in 1882. Stone entered parliament at the 1894 Legislative Council elections, when he was elected to a six-year term in North Province. He was re-elected in 1900, and retired at the end of that term, in June 1906.

Robert Mends
Captain Sir Robert Mends (c. 1767 – 4 September 1823) was a prominent British Royal Navy officer of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, who lost an arm in the American War of Independence, caught in an explosion at the Battle of Groix in 1795 and wounded again at the action of 6 April 1809. In 1815 he was made a Spanish knight for his services in the Peninsular War and was awarded a pension of £300 a year from the British government. He remained in service at the end of the Napoleonic Wars and in 1821 was made commodore on the West African station, on which he died in 1823. Life Robert Mends was born into a prominent Pembrokeshire family in the late 1760s, probably 1767. He joined the Royal Navy in 1779, serving on HMS ''Culloden'' under Captain George Balfour during the American War of Independence. William Robert Mends
Sir William Robert Mends, (27 February 1812 – 26 June 1897), was a British admiral of the Royal Navy, eldest son of Admiral William Bowen Mends and nephew of Captain Robert Mends. William Mends was born at Plymouth into a naval family. He married Melita, third daughter of Dr Joseph Stilon M.D. R.N. on 6 January 1839. The doctor was born Giueseppe Maria Joseph Stilon, a native of Calabria and a Royal Naval surgeon in Malta. Naval career He entered the Royal Naval College on 7 May 1825. Mends Street Jetty is located in South Perth in Western Australia. The jetty is on the southern shore of the Swan River in the section known as Perth Water. The ferry service is primarily used for accessing the Perth Zoo from the Perth central business district. History It is not known when the first jetty at Mends Street was built, however, with the opening of the Perth Zoo in October 1898 it was recognised that a regular cross-river ferry service was needed. Therefore, at about that time, the existing jetty was widened to and an existing service that ran between William Street and Queen Street Jetty was extended to Mends Street. The service was run by Joseph Charles, who operated the ''Queen'' (later ''Empress'') and the ''Princess''.
