Mendocino County (; ''Mendocino'', Spanish language, Spanish for "of Antonio de Mendoza, Mendoza") is a County (United States), county located on the North Coast (California), North Coast of the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 United States census, the population was 91,601. The county seat is Ukiah, California, Ukiah. Mendocino County consists wholly of the Ukiah, California Micropolitan Statistical Area, Micropolitan Statistical Area (μSA) for the purposes of the United States Census Bureau, U.S. Census Bureau. It is located approximately equidistant from the San Francisco Bay Area and California/Oregon border, separated from the Sacramento Valley to the east by the California Coast Ranges. Mendocino (Spanish language, Spanish for "of Antonio de Mendoza, Mendoza") is an Unincorporated area#United States, unincorporated community in Mendocino County, California, United States. The name comes from Cape Mendocino to the north, named by early Spanish navigators in honor of Antonio de Mendoza, Viceroy of New Spain. Despite its small size, the town's scenic location on a headland surrounded by the Pacific Ocean has made it extremely popular as an Art colony, artists' colony and with vacationers. Chandelier Tree
The Chandelier Tree in Drive-Thru Tree Park is a tall coast redwood tree in Leggett, California, with a by hole cut through its base to allow a car to drive through. Its base measures diameter at breast height (chest-high). A historic sign put up in or before the 1930s claims a height of 315 feet high and 21 feet wide (which may have been true for both at the time it was hung), but a contemporary measurement by a Certified Arborist experienced with tall redwoods and using a laser rangefinder found the tree to be 276 feet high and 16 feet in diameter. It is unknown if the tree was topped by Nature in between the measurements. The name "Chandelier Tree" comes from its unusual limbs that resemble a chandelier.
