Menasha High School
Menasha High School is a public high school located in Menasha, Wisconsin, United States, formally organized in 1875. History The current Menasha High School was built between 1936 and 1938. It was completed in 1938 in a Colonial Revival style with Georgian influences, following the design by the Green Bay firm of Foeller, Schober, and Berners. In 2014, at a cost of 30 million dollars, the outdated, undersized, and inflexible circa 1930s building underwent renovation and expansion. The architect/engineer of that project was Eppstein Uhen Architects. Great care was taken to preserve the historical features of the building. Menasha High School previously occupied two other buildings. The first, built in 1871, was razed in 1896 to expand. Menasha () is a city in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, Winnebago and Calumet County, Wisconsin, Calumet counties in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 18,268 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. Of this, 15,144 were in Winnebago County, and 2,209 were in Calumet County. The city's name comes from the Winnebago word meaning "thorn" or "island". In the Menominee language, it is known as ''Menāēhsaeh'', meaning "little island". John Callahan (Wisconsin Politician)
John Callahan (December 16, 1865May 10, 1956) was an American educator and school system administrator from Pierce County, Wisconsin. He was Wisconsin's 18th superintendent of public instruction; he is the longest-serving state superintendent in Wisconsin history, serving 28 years, from 1921 to 1949. Before becoming state superintendent, Callahan was one of the early leaders of the Wisconsin Technical College System, he also served as superintendent of public schools in Menasha, Wisconsin. As state superintendent, he is best remembered for his push to bring more vocational and home economics courses into the public primary schools, and for his efforts to consolidate Wisconsin's many small local and sub-local school districts into larger unified districts. Elda Emma Anderson
Elda Emma Anderson (October 5, 1899 – April 17, 1961) was an American physicist and health researcher. During World War II, she worked on the Manhattan Project at Princeton University and the Los Alamos National Laboratory, where she prepared the first sample of pure uranium-235 at the laboratory. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, she became professor of physics at Milwaukee-Downer College in 1929. After the war, she became interested in health physics. She worked in the Health Physics Division of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and established the professional certification agency known as the American Board of Health Physics. Publius Virgilius Lawson
Publius Virgilius Lawson (November 1, 1853 – December 1, 1920) was a lawyer, historian, manufacturer and politician from Menasha, Wisconsin. Biography Publius Virgilius Lawson was born in Corning, New York on November 1, 1853. His father, Publius Virgilius Lawson Sr, was a carpenter and builder, born in 1825. In 1856 he decided to seek opportunity in Wisconsin. He travelled there first by himself, found work in his trade, and sent for his family in December of that year. In 1858 he founded the P. V. Lawson Company, a manufacturer of doors, sashes, blinds, wagon wheels, and other wagon products. He was involved in organizing the first bank in Menasha, and he was Menasha's first mayor, beginning in 1874. He died in 1881 at the age of 53. Jean Kraft (January 9, 1927 – July 15, 2021) was an American operatic mezzo-soprano. She began her career singing with the New York City Opera (NYCO) during the early 1960s, after which she embarked on a partnership with Santa Fe Opera, The Santa Fe Opera from 1965 through 1987. In 1970 she joined the roster of singers at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City where she remained a fixture until 1989. Eric Scott Hinske (born August 5, 1977) is an American professional baseball coach and former outfielder and first baseman. Hinske played in the major leagues from 2002 to 2013 with the Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves and Arizona Diamondbacks at third base, first base, left field, and right field.
