Menahem Gnessin
Menahem Natanovich Gnessin (; ; 1882–1951) was an early Russian Jewish actor and Hebrew language instructor who created the Amateur Dramatic Arts Company in 1907 for presentation of plays in Hebrew. In 1917, at Moscow he also helped start Habimah, the world's first professional Hebrew theater. He is best known as an actor in the 1933 drama, ''Oded the Wanderer''. Gnessin wrote articles about his time in the theater, and published memoirs titled ''Darki im ha-Te'atron ha-Ivri, 1905–26'' (''My Career in the Hebrew Theater'', 1946). Born in Starodub, he emigrated to Palestine, where he died in 1951. The Jewish Virtual Library (JVL, formerly known as JSOURCE) is an online encyclopedia published by the American foreign policy analyst Mitchell Bard's non-profit organization American–Israeli Cooperative Enterprise (AICE). It is a website covering topics about Israel–United States relations, Jewish history, Israel, the Holocaust, antisemitism and Judaism. The website includes the book ''Myths and Facts''. Starodub
Starodub (, , ) is a types of inhabited localities in Russia, town in Bryansk Oblast, Russia, on the Babinets (river), Babinets River in the Dnieper basin, southwest of Bryansk. Population: 16,000 (1975). History Starodub has been known since the 11th century, when it was a part of the Principality of Chernigov. It was plundered by the Cumans in 1080. It was burned to the ground by the Mongol Empire, Mongols in the 13th century. Habimah
The Habima Theatre ( ''Te'atron HaBima'', lit. "The Stage Theatre") is the national theatre of Israel and one of the first Hebrew language theatres. It is located in Habima Square in the center of Tel Aviv. History Habima was founded as an amateur troup by Nahum Lazarevich Tsemakh (Hebrew: Naḥum Tsemaḥ; 1887–1939) in Białystok (then in Grodno Governorate, Russian Empire) in 1912. Menahem Gnessin was one of its cofounders and early actors.
