Michael Melkonian
Michael Melkonian (born 1948) is a German botanist and phycologist. He was a professor of botany at the University of Cologne from 1988 to 2017. He is currently a senior professor of phycology at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Early life and education Michael Melkonian was born in 1948 in Hamburg. He earned his bachelor's degree in botany at the University of Hamburg in 1974. He received a doctorate in Botany with a focus in plant physiology in 1978 from the University of Hamburg. Career From 1978 to 1988 Melkonian was an Assistant Professor to the Botany Department at the University of Münster. In 1982, he was a visiting assistant professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. From 1986–1988 he was a Heisenberg Fellow of the German Research Foundation (DFG). Melkonian Educational Institute
The Melkonian Educational Institute (MEI) (; ) was an Armenian boarding school of high academic standard located in Nicosia, Cyprus. Established in 1926 by the Melkonian brothers, it was the only remaining boarding school servicing students of the Armenian Diaspora from about 40 countries. Maintained by the Armenian General Benevolent Union, a decision to close down the school in 2005 caused controversy among the Armenian-Cypriot community and especially among former students. Sirak Melkonian
Sirak Melkonian (15 October 1930 – 17 August 2024; Persian: سیراک ملکنیان, Armenian: Սիրակ Մելքոնյան) was an Iranian-Armenian painter and one of the pioneers of modern art in Iran. Biography Melkonian was born in 15 October 1930 in Tehran. Due to his father's occupation, the family moved to Arak and later returned to Tehran again. At the age of 12, with his father's support, Melkonian began learning oil painting under the tutelage of an Assyrian painter named Alex Gevargiz. During his teenage years, during high school years, Melkonian became a member of the Progressive Armenian Cultural Association, where he pursued painting seriously for over a decade alongside other Armenian artists. He met Marcos Grigorian, through whom he was introduced to modern European and Western art. Melkonian's early works exhibited a figurative and expressionist approach. Samvel Melkonyan (, born on 15 March 1984 in Yerevan, Armenian SSR, Soviet Union) is an Armenian former footballer who played as a winger. Samvel was also a member of the Armenia national football team, participated in 29 international matches since his debut at home 2006 World Cup qualification match against the Netherlands on 3 September 2005. Club career Samvel began his professional career playing for Spartak Yerevan. When Spartak merged with Banants, Samvel Melkonyan automatically transferred to Banants. He has been one of the stars at his new club for the past few years. Melkonyan transferred to Ukrainian club Metalurh Donetsk in 2008, but his spell there was not successful and he returned to Banants the following year. Clearlight is a French progressive rock band formed in 1973, although their best known work was produced in England and released by a major British record company. While progressive rock is an appropriate overall genre for the band, much of their work delves into other genres including psychedelic music, jam band music, symphonic rock, space rock, jazz fusion, and new-age music. Monte Melkonian
Monte Melkonian (; 25 November 1957 – 12 June 1993) was an Armenian-American revolutionary and left-wing nationalist militant. He was a commander in the Artsakh Defence Army and was killed while fighting against Azerbaijan in the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. Born in California, Melkonian left the United States and arrived in Iran as a teacher in 1978, amidst the Iranian Revolution. He took part in demonstrations against Mohammed Reza Pahlavi, and subsequently travelled to Lebanon to serve with a Beirut-based Armenian militia fighting in the Lebanese Civil War. Melkonian was active in Bourj Hammoud, and was one of the planners of the Turkish consulate attack in Paris in 1981. He was later arrested and imprisoned in France. He was released in 1989 and acquired a visa to travel to Armenia in 1990.
