Melitopol is a city and municipality in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, southeastern Ukraine. It is situated on the Molochna River, which flows through the eastern edge of the city into the Molochnyi Lyman estuary. Melitopol is the second-largest city in the oblast after Zaporizhzhia and serves as the administrative centre of Melitopol Raion. Russian Occupation Of Zaporizhzhia Oblast
The ongoing military occupation of Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia Oblast () began after Russian forces launched southern Ukraine campaign, an invasion of mainland Ukraine out of Crimea on 24 February 2022. Galina Danilchenko
Galina Viktorovna Danilchenko (born 5 July 1964) is a Russian and Ukrainian accountant and politician who was installed by Russia as the acting mayor of Melitopol during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, following the kidnapping of Ivan Fedorov by the Russian military. She was a former member of the Melitopol City Council, elected in 2015, and became its secretary soon thereafter. Melitopol Railway Station
Melitopol railway station (; ) is a railway station in the Ukrainian city Melitopol of Zaporizhzhia Oblast currently under Russian occupation. It is currently operated by Railways of Novorossiya. History The station opened in 1874, simultaneously with the opening of the railway. The Aleksandrovsk – Melitopol line came into operation on 28 June and the Melitopol – Simferopol line in October 1874. During the Russian civil war one of the buildings of the station was used as the headquarters of the commander of the Southern front Mikhail Frunze. During the Eastern Front (World War II) in October 1943 the building was destroyed, and for the next 10 years, the duties of the station was performed by small kiosks, located on the site of the current trunk. The Molochna (; ) is a river in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, southern Ukraine. The river is connected with the Russian Mennonite culture, once based in the southeastern region of Ukraine since 1804 as Molotschna colony which was part of the Russian Empire at that time.
