Melibe Colemani
''Melibe'' is a genus of sea slugs, nudibranchs, marine (ocean), marine gastropod mollusks in the family Tethydidae. Most nudibranchs are carnivores, but their prey is usually sessile or slow-moving animals such as sponges or bryozoans. In contrast, ''Melibe'' is an active predator which traps fast-moving free-swimming animals such as small crustaceans, using its extendable oral hood Species Species within the genus ''Melibe'' include 17 valid species: ''Species inquirenda'': * ''Melibe capucina'' Bergh, 1875 * ''Melibe lonchocera'' (E. von Martens, 1879) * ''Melibe ocellata'' Bergh, 1888 References Further reading * Gosliner, T.M. 1987. Melibe Viridis
''Melibe viridis'' is a species of sea slug, a nudibranch, a marine (ocean), marine gastropod mollusk in the family Tethydidae. Distribution This species occurs in the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, the Andaman Sea off Phuket, off Mozambique and off Indonesia. Its habitat is sandy and muddy areas between 3 m and 15 m deep. Description The body reaches a length of 140 mm. Like some other nudibranch species, ''M. viridis'' has an oral veil that it uses to trap prey. This species has a particular morphology that easily distinguishes it from other nudibranchs. The body is elongated, beige to brown in color. The Melibe has a number of pairs of ceratas along the body, each of which acts as a gill. The ceratas are often darker in color than the body, sometimes with an orange apical part, their size decreasing towards the anterior part. References * MacNae, W. & M. Kalk (eds) (1958). Species Inquirenda
In biological classification, a ''species inquirenda'' is a species of doubtful identity requiring further investigation. The use of the term in English-language biological literature dates back to at least the early nineteenth century. The term ''taxon inquirendum'' is broader in meaning and refers to an incompletely defined taxon of which the taxonomic validity is uncertain or disputed by different experts or is impossible to identify the taxon. Further characterization is required. Certain species names may be designated unplaced names, which ''Plants of the World Online'' defines as "names that cannot be accepted, nor can they be put into synonymy". Unplaced names may be names which were not validly published, later homonyms which are therefore illegitimate, or species which cannot be accepted because the genus name is not accepted. Species names may remain unplaced if there is no accepted species in a genus in which it can be placed, or if the type material for the species ...

Melibe Rosea
''Melibe rosea'', the cowled nudibranch, is a species of sea slug, a dendronotid nudibranch, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Tethydidae. This species is only found in South Africa. Distribution This species is endemic to the South African coast and is found from Port Nolloth to Port Alfred, usually intertidally, but occasionally to 10 m. Description The cowled nudibranch is a white to pinky-red nudibranch distinguished by its large extendable hood. Knobbly paired cerata extend down the margins of the smooth notum. The notum and cerata may have opaque white encrustations. It can grow as large as 50 mm in total length.ZSILAVECZ, G. 2007. ''Nudibranchs of the Cape Peninsula and False Bay''. Ecology The cowled nudibranch feeds on small crustacea Crustaceans (from Latin meaning: "those with shells" or "crusted ones") are invertebrate animals that constitute one group of arthropods that are traditionally a part of the subphylum Crustacea (), a large, di ...
