Melbourne Derby (A-League Men)
The Melbourne Derby is an intra-city local derby in Australia's premier association football competition, the A-League Men. It is contested between the first two Melbourne teams playing in the competition, Melbourne City (formerly Melbourne Heart) and Melbourne Victory, and is the A-League Men's first intra-city derby. History With the introduction of Melbourne Heart (who would later be known as Melbourne City) to the A-League at the start of the 2010–11 season, joining the Victory who had joined the league at its inception in 2005, the first derby was held on 8 October 2010 at AAMI Park. The match was originally scheduled for 2 October 2010. However, due to the 2010 AFL Grand Final Replay occurring on the same day, the match was postponed. Bruno Fornaroli Mezza (; born 7 September 1987) is a professional soccer player who plays as a forward or attacking midfielder for Melbourne Victory. Born in Uruguay, he plays for the Australia national team. Club career Nacional Fornaroli was born in Salto, in northwestern Uruguay to an Italian-Uruguayan family. Thomas Sørensen
Thomas Løvendahl Sørensen (; born 12 June 1976) is a Danish former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Sørensen started his career with his local side Odense BK. After impressing on loan at Vejle Boldklub and Svendborg he was signed by English side Sunderland in 1998. After five years as first-choice goalkeeper on Wearside, he joined Aston Villa for £2 million. He remained a regular for his time at Villa Park until a fall-out with manager Martin O'Neill saw him dropped and then released in May 2008. Archie Gerald Thompson (born 23 October 1978) is an Australian former professional footballer who played as a forward. He is also currently serving as a club ambassador for Melbourne Victory FC. Born in New Zealand, Thompson played youth football at the New South Wales Institute of Sport before going on to play numerous seasons in the National Soccer League and A-League. Erik Endel Paartalu (born 3 May 1986) is an Australian professional soccer player who plays as a defensive midfielder. He has played professionally in Scotland, Australia, China, Qatar, South Korea, Thailand and India.
