Melbourne City Football Club is an Australian amateur soccer club based in the Melbourne suburb of South Kingsville. As of 2025, the club competes in the Victorian State League, Victorian State League Division 4 West (VSL 4 West), the Australian soccer league system, seventh tier of soccer in Victoria. History Melbourne City was founded in 1990 as Melbourne City Soccer Club after the Argentine Australians, Argentine community took over Footscray JUST, which had been established by Yugoslavs, Yugoslav migrants in 1950. Footscray JUST (known as "Melbourne City JUST" in its final season) had finished in a relegation position at the end of the 1990 National Premier Leagues Victoria, Victorian State League season. Victorian State League
The Victorian State League, known as VETO Sports State League for sponsorship purposes is an Australian soccer league based in Victoria that was founded in 1958 and administered by Football Victoria. It consists of five divisions (separated by two zones for divisions 1–3, and four zones for divisions 4–5), and is used for promotion to the Victorian Premier League. The league was formerly known as the ''Victorian Metropolitan League'' from 1958 to 1984 and ''Victorian League'' from 1985 to 1990. History The league was formed in 1958; it has had many name changes such as Metropolitan League, and Victorian League. It was only known as State League since 1991. Prior to the 2014 season, the league was the second highest in the Victoria. In the 2012 season's first division, Pascoe Vale and Port Melbourne Sharks were promoted to the Victorian Premier League, while Whittlesea Ranges, Dandenong City and Springvale White Eagles were relegated.
