Melaka Island
Malacca Island () is a man-made islet approximately 0.5 km off the coast of Malacca City – the capital city of the Malaysian state of Malacca, just south of its business district of Taman Melaka Raya. It is formed from the reclamation of land around an islet named Jawa Island (, not to be confused with Indonesia's Java Island and originally a tidal island) in the mid-1990s, when the Malacca State Government under then Chief Minister, Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik was planning to turn it into a "Malacca Manhattan" for business and recreational purposes. History The original islet was also known as Pulo Malaca or Ilha Das Naus (Portuguese for 'Islands of the Ships') during the Portuguese era and Rood Eiland (Dutch for 'Red Island') during the Dutch era. Arab City Melaka
Arab City Melaka was a commercial development project in Malacca City, Malacca, Malaysia jointly developed by Golden Corporate Heritage Sdn Bhd (GCH) and Malacca's state-owned enterprise. The project, considered "the first ever in the world", were billed at RM 1 Billion but has since been placed on hold. Malacca Straits Mosque
The Malacca Straits Mosque () is a mosque located on the artificial Malacca Island in Malacca City, Malaysia. Constructed at a cost of about MYR10 million, it was inaugurated on 24 November 2006 by the King of Malaysia, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin ibni Almarhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail. It was built using a mix of Middle Eastern and Malay craftsmanship and looks like a floating structure when the water level is high. The mosque has two intersecting archways that lead to the main entrance, and stained glass covers the space in between the arches.
