The first Government of Prime Minister Aleksandër Meksi also known as ''"The First Democratic Government"'', is the 54th Government of the Republic of Albania formed on 19 April 1992, following the 1992 Albanian parliamentary election, early elections of the same year when the Democratic Party of Albania, Democratic Party led by Sali Berisha managed to win a majority of 92 seats out of 140 in the Parliament of Albania, Parliament. The new government led by Meksi was approved in parliament on 13 April 1992, and took oath on 19 of the same month in the presence of the newly appointed President of Albania, President Sali Berisha. Cabinet The Meksi government at the beginning of its term had a structure with 23 positions, where in addition to the prime minister, there were also 2 deputy prime ministers, who also held ministerial posts, a Secretary General of the Council of Ministers, 16 ministers and 3 committee chairmen. Aleksandër Meksi
Aleksandër Gabriel Meksi (born March 8, 1939) is an Albanian archaeologist and politician who served as the 28th Prime Minister of Albania from April 13, 1992, to March 11, 1997. A former archaeologist, he was the first person to be prime minister of Albania after the end of communist rule. Meksi was a member of the Democratic Party of Albania and took office at the same time as President Sali Berisha, who also belonged to that party. Before entering politics, Meksi was a researcher and restorer of monuments of medieval architecture (mainly churches and mosques). Meksi resigned as the country descended into the 1997 Civil War caused by financial problems. A few months after Meksi's resignation, Berisha also resigned. Despite his resignation, his government enjoyed one of the longest tenures of any democratically elected government of Albania.
